Former Friar Nolan Schaefer Signs With The Boston Bruins

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Providence College men's hockey All-American Nolan Schaefer `03 signed a contract with the Boston Bruins on Monday, July 5.

Schaefer, who last season played with HC CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia, spent the previous three years in the American Hockey League (AHL). A 2000 fifth-round pick of the San Jose Sharks, Schaefer made his NHL debut on October 26, 2005 with the Sharks. He finished that season with a 5-1-0 record, a 1.87 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

In four years (1999-2003) at Providence, Schaefer played in 99 games and recorded a school record 2,848 saves. He enjoyed his most successful season as a Friar in 2000-01 when he posted 15 wins, led PC to the NCAA Tournament and was named to the All-America second team.
