PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel south to Kingston, R.I. on Friday, December 4 to take on Bryant, Holy Cross, Springfield and Rhode Island in the Harold Anderson Invitational. The two-day event will be held at the Tootell Aquatics Center on the University of Rhode Island campus. The meet starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and continues on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
The Invitational dates back to 1996, when Providence, Vermont, Holy Cross and Rhode Island competed in the event. The meet provided the schools with one last physical challenge before the mental challenge of fall final exams.
Two years ago, both the men’s and women’s teams finished third out of four teams. Last year, Providence finished fourth out of six teams. Overall, both Friar teams have never finished higher than second in the annual event.
In the meet, Providence will look to avenge its loss to intra-state rival Rhode Island suffered on November 7. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both fell in their head-to-head meet with the Rams, 146-125 and 162-91, respectively.
Providence is coming off an away meet against Bryant in which the men’s team defeated the Bulldogs, 143-118, and the women fell 158.5-97.5. With the split, the men’s team improved to 2-2 and the women’s team dropped to 0-4 in head-to-head events on the year.
The Harold Anderson Invitational will conclude the fall season for the Friar swimming and diving teams. On Tuesday, January 5, the Friars will travel to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands for their annual winter training trip.
