The Providence College volleyball team won three-of-four games against South Carolina State on Friday, August 29. The Friars won the match with scores of 25-17, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-15. The victory improves the team's record to 1-1 and gives the Friars a split of its two Friday matches in the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament. The Bulldogs fall to 1-1.

Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) led the Providence attack with 20 kills and added five total blocks. Senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered nine kills and five total blocks. Two Friars posted double-figure digs. Senior Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered 15 while senior defensive specialist Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) added 13. Senior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) recorded 36 assists, moving her past Kristen Kam into fourth place on PC's all-time list with 2,443. Her four service aces also moved her into third place on PC's all-time aces list.

The Friars came out strong in game one, and won it, 25-17, behind five kills from Flynn. Providence kept the momentum and took the second game easily, 25-16. After a 25-20 victory by South Carolina State in game three, the Friars controlled game four en route to a 25-15 win and match victory.

Providence will remain in Virginia for its final two games in the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament on Saturday. The Friars play host Hampton at 9:00 a.m. and battle South Dakota at 1:00 p.m.
