PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to 14th-ranked Brown, 11-9, on April 19 in Providence, R.I. Sophomore Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Friars with four goals in the effort. Brown was led offensively by Andrew Feinberg, who also netted four goals on the night.
The Friars led 2-1 after the first quarter of play as Tigh and graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) each netted goals. Tigh's goal came off a feed from senior Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) at the 5:29 mark to give PC a 1-0 lead. Murphy's goal was assisted by senior Robert Lamontagne (Pittsford, N.Y.) during a man-up situation with 10 seconds left on the clock to break a 1-1 tie.
Murphy struck again with 4:37 left in the second quarter, unassisted, to put the Friars ahead, 3-1. Brown answered with a goal from Thomas Muldoon, man-up, with 1:01 left to get the Bears within one goal (3-2) at the break.
In the third quarter, Muldoon and Kyle Hollingsworth netted back-to-back goals at 9:58 and 8:12 to give Brown its first lead of the game at 4-3. Tigh answered with his second and third goals of the game at 7:07 and 5:59 to put Providence back ahead, 5-4. Both of Tigh's goals were unassisted.
Andrew Feinberg tied the game, 5-5, for Brown with 4:53 on the clock in the third, but PC's Thomas Wenskus (East Islip, N.Y.) registered his first collegiate goal, unassisted, with 4:46 left in the quarter to give PC a 6-5 lead.
Providence graduate student Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) started the scoring in the fourth quarter at the 13:39 mark and pushed the Friars' lead to two goals (7-5). Dillon's goal was assisted by graduate student Henry Pynchon (Ipswich, Mass.).
Brown answered with five-straight goals and never looked back. Feinberg netted the first two tallies, followed by two goals from Zach Caldwell and one from Jack Walsh. The offensive flurry put Brown ahead, 10-7.
Tigh halted the run with his fourth goal of the game with 2:55 left on the clock, unassisted. Muldoon answered for Brown to give the Bears an 11-8 lead with 1:01 to play, man-up. Providence's Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) connected off a pass from Murphy with 43-seconds left in the game, man-up, but it proved to be the final goal of the night for either team.
Providence out-shot Brown, 27-25, and won 16 of 23 face offs in the game.
