The Providence College swimming & diving teams participated in the third annual "Hour of Power" relay. The relay was started in 2006, when Carleton College swimmer Ted Mullin passed away from sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer. That year 15 teams across the country joined together to raise awareness and funds to be put towards research at the University of Chicago. The relay's first year raised over $11,000.
In 2007, the number of teams participating rose to 53, raising over $43,000. Providence College became one of over 100 teams to participate in the 2008 event, which consists of a "leave it in the pool" type practice of continuous relays of any stroke, all out, for an hour.
