Men's Basketball Holds Fanfest And Mal Brown Scrimmage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's basketball team opened its season with its annual Mal Brown intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, October 27 at PC's Alumni Hall. The White Shirts defeated the Black Shirts, 31-30, in a 20-minute game. Freshman Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored on a put-back dunk with .7 seconds remaining to give the White Shirts the win. Peterson led the White Shirts with 10 points and five rebounds.

The Friars split into two teams and played a spirited game in front of more than 1,500 fans who also attended the Fanfest prior to the action. It was an opportunity for the Friar faithful to see some of the returning veterans and the team's newcomers in action. In addition to Peterson's 10 points, sophomore Dwain Williams (San Diego, Calif.) registered nine points and junior Jeff Xavier (Pawtucket, R.I.) added seven points for the White Shirts.

Sophomore Brian McKenzie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 11 points as he shot 5-9 from the field for the Black Shirts. Junior Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) also had a strong game with eight points and five rebounds. Junior Jon Kale (Mattapan, Mass.) and sophomore Ray Hall (Denver, Colo.) each had a game-high six rebounds.

The Friars will play their first exhibition game on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m versus Carleton University at the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I.
