Final Stats

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Providence College volleyball team (0-9) lost to Holy Cross (2-6), 3-1, by scores of 30-20, 33-31, 30-24, and 30-27 in action at the Hart Center. PC totaled a season-high 98 digs including freshman Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) who had 33 digs. Senior Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) almost had her second career triple-double with 31 assists, 19 digs and nine kills. Senior Allison Baker had a solid evening as well totaling 15 kills and eight digs.

In the first game, the Friars raced out to an early 4-0 advantage, but the Crusaders came back with a 4-0 spurt to knot things at 4-apiece. The score would remain tight over the next few points, including a 10-10 tie. The Crusaders would string a couple of points together and hold a 22-13 lead. PC would make a late run and cut the deficit to eight, 28-20, but Holy Cross went on to the 30-20 win.

Game two saw the teams tied early as well, 4-4. PC ripped off a string of points with Little at the serve, and held an early 14-10 lead. HC came back and the score was tied, 22-22. The Friars then had a pair of unforced errors, which led to a timeout, and the score 24-22, HC. The timeout proved efficient as the Friars tied the game at 24, then surged ahead, 26-24, inducing the Crusaders into a timeout. The momentum swung over to the Crusaders side, but the teams battled into extra-play tied at 30-apiece. Each side had their chance to win the game, but it was the visiting Friars who prevailed 33-31, and tied the match at one-game each.

The third game began with the Crusaders holding an early 5-1 advantage. The Friars ripped off a trio of points to cut it to one, 5-4, but HC kept the Friars at bay until a string of two consecutive points, put the Friars ahead, 9-8. The teams battled with neither one going ahead by more than a couple of points. With the score tied, 13-13, HC went on a run and went ahead 17-15, but PC kept it close, and eventually tied it, 19-19. The teams kept it close, and the Crusaders held a 24-22 lead before PC called a time out. It wasn't enough to shake the Crusaders run, as HC came out and kept the pressure on. With the score 27-23, PC called its final timeout of the game. It wasn't enough as the Friars lost, 30-24.

PC jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the fourth game. The advantage inflated to 7-2, PC, and 8-3 before HC got settled. With the Crusaders reeling off a couple of points, the score lead was smaller, 9-6, Friars. PC would later lead 12-7, but the Crusaders made a run to knot it at 13, reasoning PC to call its first timeout. The game remained close, including a 16-16 tie. With the Friars ahead, 20-18, HC went on small run, and the game was tied again, 22-22. HC went on a 3-0 run, and as PC trailed, 25-22, the Friars used their final timeout. Providence responded with a 3-0 run of their own to tie it, 25-25. HC then closed it out winning, 30-27.
