PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Maria McCambridge `98, a former Providence College cross country and track star, will compete for Ireland in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. McCambridge, who will run the 5,000 meters, joins Marie McMahon-Davenport `98 (10,000 meters) and Mark Carroll `95 (5,000 meters) as former Friars who will represent Ireland at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Current Friar Kim Smith `05 (5,000 meters) also will compete at the Summer Olympics as member of the New Zealand team. McCambridge was added to the Irish team following her performance in Heusden, Belgium on July 31. She achieved an "A" Standard time of 15:05.86, which also is her personal best. The "A" Standard is any time under 15:08.70. While at Providence, McCambridge earned four All-America honors. In 1996, she was a cross country All-American and earned two track All-America accolades.
