Kim Smith Wins Her Third NCAA Title in 2004 As She Captures The 5,000 Meters On Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Providence College junior Kim Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) captured the NCAA 5,000 meter title on Saturday, June 12 at the NCAA Track & Field Championship in Austin, Texas. Smith set a course record as she finished in a time of 15:48.86. Stanford's Sara Bei placed second in a time of 16:24.90.

During the indoor season, Smith captured the NCAA 3,000 and 5,000 titles. With her victory in the 5,000 on Saturday, she became the first Friar runner to win three NCAA titles. Smith has now earned four All-America honors this year.

With Smith's first place finish, the Friar women's team finished tied for 22nd place with 10 points.
