AUSTIN, Texas -- The Providence College women's track team opened competition at the 2004 Women's NCAA Track & Field Championship in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, June 9. Friar senior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) threw the javelin in the preliminaries. Friar All-American junior Kim Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) was scheduled to run the preliminaries of the 5,000 on Wednesday night, but heavy rain and lightning cancelled many events, including the 5,000. Smith will run in the finals on Saturday at 9:55 ET.
In the javelin, Freeburg placed seventh in her flight with a throw of 45.11, but did not advance to the finals on Friday. Her throw was the 13th best of the preliminaries with the top 12 advancing to the finals.
