PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's hockey Head Coach Paul Pooley named team captains for the 2004-05 season. Senior Jeff Mason (Easthampton, Mass.) will be the captain, while senior Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Tony Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.) will serve as assistant captains.
Mason played his first two seasons at Providence as a defenseman, before making the change to right wing in 2003-04. He recorded six points (four goals and two assists) in 33 games last season. During his freshman season, Mason earned the team's Rev. Herman Schneider Award as the team's top freshman and received the Plus/Minus award.
Chaput is coming off his best season as a Friar is 2003-04 as he led the squad in scoring with 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists) and was named to the Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star Team. He recorded six-multiple point games and tied for the team lead with six power-play goals.
Zancanaro had an impressive freshman season for the Friars in 2003-04. He played in all 37 games and posted 10 points (five goals, five assists). Zancanaro also finished tied for second on the team with two game-winning goals.
The Friars open the regular season on Friday, October 8 as they host Clarkson at 7:00 p.m.
