Former Friar Jim Hughes '89 Named Boston Bruins Assistant Coach

BOSTON, MASS. - Former Providence College men's hockey standout Jim Hughes `89 was named an assistant coach for the Boston Bruins by Bruins head coach Robbie Ftorek.

Hughes played in 132 games from 1985 through 1989 at Providence, where he registered 23 goals, 69 assists, 92 points and 188 penalty minutes. He was a two-time HOCKEY EAST All-Star. As a senior, Hughes was named the Friars' most valuable player and the school's Male Athlete of the Year.

Hughes spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the Orlando Solar Bears of the defunct International Hockey League. Hughes becomes the seventh Providence College alum with a management position in the National Hockey League. He joins:
