KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars were defeated, 2-0, by the University of Rhode Island in women's soccer action on Friday, September 22 at Kingston, R.I. Sophomore Gina Rosen (Milwaukee, Wisc.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Rams to the victory.

The Rams had control throughout most of the first half, taking 10 shots while the Friars were held shotless for the first 45 minutes. The two teams would head into halftime with a scoreless tie.

Rosen netted what proved to be the game-winning goal at 47:21, when she converted on a cross from junior Shannon Kittelson (Auburn, Wash.). The Rams added an insurance goal at the 56:46 mark. Rosen put home a rebound of a Catherine Zanni (Centerport, N.Y.) to give Rhode Island the 2-0 decision.

In goal, Friar freshman Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) stopped seven shots while sophomore Jamie Epperlein (Woodbine, Md.) recorded one save for Rhode Island.

With the loss, PC's record falls to 2-6-0 overall as Rhode Island raises its overall record to 8-0-0.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 24, when they host Syracuse University at PC's Glay Field at 12:00 p.m.
