THE FRIARS AND EAGLES...Meet for the second time this season and the 90th time in the all-time series. The Eagles won at the Conte Forum on January 8th, 67-62. In that game, the Eagles came from ten points down in the final five minutes to pull out the win. The Boston College win snapped a PC two-game winning streak in the series. Providence leads the all-time series with a 51-38 mark in the first 89 meetings. In BIG EAST regular season play, the Friars lead that series with a 21-17 record. In Providence, the Friars are 32-11 versus the Eagles, but BC has won two of the last three games played at the Civic Center.

STREAKY FRIARS...The Friars snapped their 10-game losing streak on Wednesday, February 16th with a 47-45 win at the University of Miami. PC has now won two in a row with the Friars' 89-79 win over Notre Dame on Wednesday night in South Bend, Indiana.

LIGHTS OUT...Junior guard Donta Wade had a career night at Notre Dame scoring a career high 38 points (12-23 FG, 10-17 3PT, 4-4 FT) while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists. The 38 points was the most by a BIG EAST player this season and his 10-for-17 night behind the three point arc set PC and BIG EAST records for three-pointers and attempts in a game. Wade broke the PC record which was eight in one game and held by Ernie "Pop" Lewis and Delray Brooks. The BIG EAST record was nine and held by Shaheen Holloway, Ray Allen and Dana Barros. The PC record for attempts in a game was 16 by Billy Donovan. The BIG EAST record for attempts was also 16 and was held by Barros and Marius Janulis.

MR. CONSISTENT...Junior forward Erron Maxey scored 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-2 FT) with seven rebounds in the Friars' 89-79 win at Notre Dame. That marked the 11th consecutive game that the Friars' leading scorer has scored in double figures and the 23rd time in 26 games this year that he has scored ten or more points. For the season, Maxey leads the Friars with 15.3 points per game and is second in rebounding with 7.8 boards per game.

TWO FOR THE ROAD...PC's win over Notre Dame was the Friars' second consecutive BIG EAST road win. The win snapped Notre Dame's two game series winning streak and was the Friars' first win at Notre Dame since 2/21/96. PC is now 2-2 in games played at Notre Dame....

FRIARS DOWN FIGHTING IRISH ...The Friars won their second in a row on Wednesday night with an 89-79 win at Notre Dame. Donta Wade led the Friars with a career high 38 points on the night. Erron Maxey chipped in 17 and Abdul Mills added 14 to pace the PC attack.

HOME COOKING...The Friars are 6-8 at home this season after going 10-5 at home during the 1998-99 season. Since moving to the Providence Civic Center in 1972-73, the Friars have only had two losing records in home games (1984-85 when the Friars were 5-10 and 1982-83 when PC was 6-7). Over the last seven-and-a-half seasons, PC is 88-39 (.693) at the Civic Center. The Friars are 46-8 (.852) in their last 54 non-conference home games in Providence dating back to the start of the 1992-93 season.

CIVIC CENTER RECORD...PC owns a 343-137 (.715) record at the Providence Civic Center since the building opened in 1972. The Friars recorded their 300th win on January 8, 1996 against Canisius (91-63).

KARIM'S SUPREME...Karim Shabazz recorded the first triple-double at Providence in 22 years on Monday, December 27th with his 25 points/15 rebounds/10 blocks game versus Long Island. The last triple-double recorded by a Friar was done by Bob Misevicius on January 11, 1977 versus Connecticut when he had 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in an 86-71 win. Shabazz becomes just one of four players at PC ever to record ten blocks in a game and the first since Bob Cooper had ten versus Michigan on December 29, 1976. The record is 12 by Marvin Barnes who had three games with ten or more and James Hadnot had 10 in the 1960 NIT versus St. Louis.

TRIPLE THE FUN...Since 1960, the record books show that Providence College has recorded six triple-doubles. Here's the list:

Karim Shabazz - Dec. 27, 1999 vs. Long Island
(25 pts./15 rebs./10 blocks). PC won 79-63.
Bob Misevicius - Jan. 11, 1977 vs. Connecticut
(14 pts./13 rebs./10 asts). PC won 86-71.

James Hadnot - March 18, 1960 vs. St. Louis (NIT)
(17 pts./19 rebs./10 blocks). PC won 64-53.

There have been just nine triple doubles in the 21 seasons of the BIG EAST. The last was done by St. John's Ron Artest (13 pts./12 rebs./11 asts.) versus St. John's on 1/9/99.

NAIL BITERS...The Friars saw their record improve to 2-4 in "close" games after the February 16th win at Miami (47-45). The Friars' other win in a "close" one came in overtime against Massachusetts (12/30/99) by a 61-60 margin. PC's "close losses have come at North Carolina State (60-64), versus Central Connecticut (50-54), versus Fordham (67-71) and at Boston College (62-67). "Close" games are games decided by five or less points.

DIVISIONS IN 2000-2001... The BIG EAST Conference will divide into two conferences in men's basketball for the 2000-2001 season as the league adds Virginia Tech as its 14th member. The Friars will be in a Division with Boston College, Connecticut, Miami, St. John's, Villanova and Virginia Tech and will play each team twice. The other Division will be made up of Georgetown, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Syracuse and West Virginia. PC will play four games against teams from that division each season. The Conference also announced a new tournament format for next year as only the top six teams in each division will advance to Madison Square Garden. The women will continue to play in one 14-team league, playing each team once and three teams, twice. The women will also have just 12 teams make the tournament with the first four teams getting a bye and then playing the four first round winners in the quarterfinal round.

NON-CONFERENCE RECORD...With the Friars loss to Fordham on January 2nd, PC finished the 1999-2000 non-conference schedule with a 7-6 record. The last time PC lost six non-conference games was in the 1984-85 season when that team was also 7-6.

FRIARS VS. RANKED TEAMS...The Friars saw their record against teams ranked in the Top 25 by the Associated Press and/or USA Today fall to 0-3 with their 74-58 loss to fourth-ranked Syracuse on February 5th. That game marked the first time this season that PC played a ranked team at the Providence Civic Center. A year ago, PC was 4-6 against ranked teams.

FOR STARTERS...Coming into tonight's game, the Friars have used 12 different starting lineups. Versus Miami, Abdul Mills (G), Donta Wade (G), Karim Shabazz (C), Romuald Augustin (F) and Erron Maxey (F) started the fifth time as a unit. The group is 3-2 on the season. Maxey is the only Friar to start in all 26 games for Providence this season.

OUT OF ACTION...Junior guard John Linehan is back on the sidelines after re-aggravating a groin injury that has plagued him all season. Linehan's injury problems started on October 25th when he underwent surgery for a sports hernia. Following two more surgeries for a blood clot and an infection, PC's superpest missed the Friars' first five games. He returned on November 30th versus Boston University and played in four games before getting hurt against Central Connecticut. The Chester, Pa. native missed the Arkansas and Long Island games before returning against Massachusetts. He played in that game and against Fordham before going out of the lineup late in the second half. He also has a fractured bone in his left wrist that is now in a cast. He has missed the last 13 games and is out indefinitely. To date, Lenihan has played in six games and is averaging 5.2 ppg with 3.0 rpg, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game.

STREAK SNAPPED...The overtime loss at West Virginia snapped the Friars' three-game winning streak in overtime games. Providence won earlier in the year versus Massachusetts, 61-60, at the Providence Civic Center. PC also won twice last year defeating West Virginia and Villanova in the extra stanza. PC's last loss in overtime occurred in the 1997 NCAA Tournament when the Friars fell to Arizona in the Elite Eight game, 96-92.

FREE THROW MARK...The Friars turned in a season-best effort from the charity stripe versus West Virginia on January 30th. PC sank 17-of-19 free throws for a season hight 89.5% shooting mark from the line. PC's previous best was just 80.0% (12-of-15 versus URI and 8-10 at Boston College). Erron Maxey (6-6), Jamaal Camah (4-4) and Abdul Mills (2-2) were all perfect from the line for the Friars who came into the West Virginia game shooting just 60.2% from the foul line.

HIGHS AND LOWS...The 43 points scored by the Friars in the 54-43 loss to Holy Cross (11/20/99) is the fewest points the Friars have scored in a game since December 27, 1982 when they lost by an identical 54-43 score to the University of Hawaii in the Rainbow Classic. Just one week later, the Friars set the school's single game scoring mark with 120 points versus American University - Puerto Rico.

FRIARS FOR THREE...The Friars hit on a season high 12 three-pointers in the victory at Notre Dame (2/23/00). That marked the third time this season that PC was in double figures for three-pointers. The other two came versus American-Puerto Rico (11) and against Boston University (10).

FOR THE RECORDS...The Friars' 120-point outburst against American University of Puerto Rico set the single game mark for points in a game. The previous mark was 118 and was set on January 20th, 1973 in a 118-88 win over Western Kentucky. PC's 50 field goals versus American also set a school mark. The previous best of 48 was done four times with the last one coming on December 18, 1976 versus Brown University.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM...Junior forward Erron Maxey was chosen to the All-Tournament team at the Puerto Rico Shootout. In three games, Maxey scored 61 points (20.3 ppg) and had 22 rebounds (7.3 rpg). The Friars' team captain set personal bests with 12 field goals and 25 points in the win over American University.

MAXEY-MUM EFFORT....Junior forward Erron Maxey continues to be PC's Mr. Consistent this season. Versus Notre Dame on February 23rd, Maxey led the Friars to victory with 17 points and seven rebounds. He has scored in double figures in 11 straight games for the Friars and in 23 of the team's 26 games this season. For the year, Maxey has recorded six double-doubles and he now has 11 for his career. Maxey has also recorded career highs this season for points (25 versus American-Puerto Rico) and rebounds (18 versus Brown). Maxey has led the Friars in scoring in 16 of 26 games and in rebounding in 13 of 25 games. He leads the team in scoring with 15.3 ppg and is second in rebounds with 7.8 boards per game. His six double-doubles rank him fifth among BIG EAST players

Versus Miami, Shabazz was held to just one point with four rebounds and three blocked shots in 27 minutes of play. On January 30th at West Virginia, Shabazz turned in his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. MR. ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD...Junior guard Chris Rogers equalled his career best with five assists in the win at Notre Dame. He earlier dished out five versus Villanova (1/2/00). His best game of the season came at Boston College as he scored a career high 12 points off the bench. Rogers was 4-8 FG, 2-3 3PT and 2-2 from the line. At West Virginia on January 30th, Rogers played a career high 34 minutes with five points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals.

MURRAY'S BEST...Junior forward David Murray came off the bench at Seton Hall to score a career high 17 points (7-14 FG, 3-5 FT) while grabbing seven rebounds. Murray also played a career high 35 minutes in that game. Versus Rutgers, Murray scored ten points with three rebounds off the bench. He was 6-for-7 from the line. Both the makes and attempts were career bests for Murray.

MILLS(ING) AROUND...Freshman guard Abdul Mills seems to have found his early-season confidence over the past six games. After scoring just 16 points in the previous six games, Mills has scored 53 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, dished out 20 assists and picked up 12 steals all while committing 11 turnovers. Mills had 14 points (4-9 FG, 1-1 3PT, 5-8 FT) in the win at Notre Dame on February 23rd. came off the bench at Seton Hall to score 13 points

WADE PARADE...Junior guard Donta Wade found the scoring touch with a career high 38-point game at Notre Dame on February 23rd. Wade was 12-for-23 from the field including 10-of-17 from behind the three-point arc giving him Providence College and BIG EAST records in each category. Wade's 38-point outburst came on the heels of scoring just 17 points in his previous five games. Wade's 38 point night surpassed his 24-point night in PC's win over Arkansas on December 23rd. Wade was 8-for-13 from the floor (6-for-8 from three-point land) and added a pair of free throws in 24 minutes off the bench.

THE SHOT BLOCKERS...With the addition of David Murray and Karim Shabazz to the PC lineup, there has been a steady increase in blocked shots. Last season, PC recorded 65 blocks in 30 games for a 2.2 blocks per game average. This season, through the first 25 games, the Friars already have 122 blocks (4.69 per game). The last time a PC team averaged more that 4.69 blocks per game was during the 1974-75 season when that team recorded 210 blocks in 31 games (6.7 per game). Erron Maxey led the team with 19 last season. Shabazz already has 46 in 17 games while David Murray has rejected 25 and Maxey has a career high with 24 blocks this season.

MARKING TIME...Freshman guard Mark Jarrell-Wright scored a career high eight points (3-5 FG, 2-2 3PT) at Seton Hall on February 1st. The rookie canned his first two three-pointers of the season versus the Pirates.

BIG EAST SHOOTING..The Friars turned in their best offensive performance of the BIG EAST season at Notre Dame shooting 48.3% (29-60) from the floor. The Friars also made 12-of-22 three-pointers (54.4%) in that game. The Friars' previous BIG EAST best came at Seton Hall (27-60, 45.1%).

SLAMMING THE DOOR...PC's hardnosed defense against Miami held the Hurricanes to a season low 45 points surpassing the previous low of 48 that PC held Georgetown to on January 5th. The Friars forced the Hurricanes into shooting just 31.9% for the night on 15-for-47 shooting from the floor. The 45 points is the fewest points a PC team has surrendered in Tim Welsh's two seasons guiding the Black and White. The last time PC held a team to less than 48 points was the 1997-98 season when PC held Brown to 33 points in a 67-33 win.

FEWEST POINTS TO WIN...The last time the Friars scored less than 47 points in a game and won was on December 28, 1983 when PC defeated Pennsylvania, 46-42 in the first round of the Fleet Classic in Providence.

50 OR LESS...PC has held opponents to 50 or less three times this season. The last time that happened was during the 1992-93 season when that Friars' team held teams to 50 or less three times. The last time a PC team held opponents to 50 or less more than three times in a season was during the 1981-82 season when that team did it six times.

FIRST HALF MAGIC...The Friars held Georgetown to just six field goals and 15 points in the first half of the 55-48 win on January 5th. The 15 points was the second fewest ever given up by the Friars in a BIG EAST game as they held Connecticut to 15 on February 1, 1982. The fewest points a PC team has ever given up in a half is 12 and that occured versus the Crescent Athletic Club on January 1, 1927.

SECOND HALF DEFENSE...The Friars held West Virginia to a season low 23 points in the second half on January 30th. PC's zone defense limited the Mountaineers to just 9-22 shooting, including 1-10 from beyond the three-point arc.

BOARD PROBLEMS...PC's rebounding struggles took new highs and lows versus Villanova. The Wildcats pulled down a season high 53 boards versus the Friars. On the other hand, the Friar grabbed a season-low 27 rebounds in the loss. The Friars have won the battle of the boards in each of the last two games. For the season, the Friars have been outrebounded in 17 of the team's 26 games.

TURNOVER TIME...PC forced Villanova into a season high 29 turnovers on January 20th. Despite that, the Friars fell, 66-57. This marked the second time this season, PC has forced 29 turnovers. On November 27th, American-Puerto Rico also turned it over 29 times. The Friars have forced opponents into 502 turnovers this season, an average of 19.3 per game.

PROTECTING THE BALL...The Friars did an outstanding job protecting the ball in the win at Notre Dame as they turned it over just 12 times, including just twice in the second half. Four times this year, the Friars have turned the ball over 26 times in a game. PC turned the ball over 26 times in the loss at Boston College, including eight in the final five minutes of the game. At West Virginia on January 30th, the Friars coughed it up 21 times in the game, including six turnovers in the overtime. For the season, the Friars have turned the ball over 480 times for 18.5 turnovers per game.

FREE THROW STRUGGLES...The Friars were 19-for-29 (.655) from the foul line at Miami on February 23rd. For the year, PC is shooting 291-for-469 (62.0%) from the charity stripe. Last season, the Friars shot .766 from the foul line. Since 1954-55, no PC team has ever shot lower than .637 for the season.

BATTLES OF THE BOARDS...The Friars have been outrebounded in 17 of their 26 games this season which gives the Friars a - 0.9 margin per game.
