CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College scored four goals in the first period, two goals in the second period and two goals in the third period to earn an 8-0 win against Providence College in HOCKEY EAST action on Friday, February 11 at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Coming off a 6-0 victory against Northeastern on Monday in the Beanpot, BC's offense did not miss a beat in the first period against the Friars as the Eagles netted four unanswered goals. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead when Paul Kelly skated in on the right side and fired a wrist shot past PC goaltender Boyd Ballard at 7:06 of the first period. Boston College extended its lead at 11:04 of the first period when Brian Gionta poked in a rebound from the top of the crease. The Eagles continued to dominate as Jeff Farkas netted his 21st goal of the season on the a power-play at 15:59 of the first period. After Farkas' goal Ballard was replaced in net by freshman goaltender Nolan Schaefer. Rob Scuderi closed out the scoring in the first period for the Eagles when he fired a wrist shot from the right point that found the back of the net at the 16:49 mark.
The Eagles did not let up in the second period. Gionta scored his second goal of the game at 3:40 of the second period on a slap shot from the top of the circle. Blake Bellefeuille increased BC's lead to 6-0 when he finished off a breakaway at 14:24 of the second period.
Krys Kolanos scored two goals in the third period at 2:13 and 7:26 to close out the scoring for Boston College.
Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves in the shutout for the Eagles.
With the win, Boston College improved to 19-7-1 overall and 11-6-1 in HOCKEY EAST action, while Providence fell to 14-14-1 overall and 6-11-0 in league play.
The Friars will return to action against New Hampshire on Saturday, February 12 at PC's Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
