PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the Siena College Saints, 2-0, in women's soccer action on Thursday, October 12 at Providence, R.I. The Friars were led by junior forward Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) who scored both goals to lead PC to the victory.

Welsh scored the Friars' first goal of the game at the 12:25 mark following a Jill Flanagan (Winter Springs, Fla.) shot. Flanagan broke down the right side of the field and blasted a shot at Saints goalkeeper Lisa Miceli (East Islip, N.Y.) that rebounded in front of the net. Welsh promptly completed the play by shooting the ball into the open net to give the Friars the game's first tally.

The Friars added an insurance goal when Welsh converted on a corner kick from senior midfielder Kim Carr (Hanover, Mass.). Carr lofted a high kick to the back side of the net and Welsh was able to break free of her defender and head the ball past Miceli at 53:09.

In goal, Miceli recorded six saves in the loss. Providence freshman goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) posted three stops as she earned her fourth shutout of the season.

With the loss, Siena's record fell to 4-8-2 overall. Providence improved its record to 5-9-0 overall with the win.
