PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Providence College Friars and the Pittsburgh Panthers played to a 1-1 tie in women's soccer action on Sunday, October 15 at Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 61:49 mark when junior Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) scored on a blast from the right side. The Panthers evened the game on a penalty kick by sophomore Lauren Sciocchetti (Wallingford, Pa.) that beat Friar freshman goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.).
The two teams remained tied after regulation and neither team was able to score in 30 minutes of overtime.
In goal, Haines recorded 10 saves for the Friars. Junior Rachel Brown (Burnley, England) and sophomore Gretchen Ross (Glenshaw, Pa.) combined to make eight stops for Pittsburgh.
With the tie, Providence's record moved to 5-9-1 overall, while Pittsburgh's record changed to 5-11-1 overall following the tie. Since the Friars and the Panthers are not in the same BIG EAST Divisions, the contest did not affect each team's league records.
