Women's Track Finishes 12th at BIG EAST Championship

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Providence College men's track team finished in 11th place and the women's track team placed 12th at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship on May 1-2 in Villanova, Pa.
The men's team scored 34 points and finished in 11th place. Junior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) led the Friars with a first-place finish (30:05.47) in the 10,000 meters. It marked the first time a Friar captured the 10,000 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship since Paul Logan won it 1992. Senior Ben Noad (Bristol, England) also turned in a strong performance for PC, finishing second in the 5,000 meters (14:19.05). Noad was followed in the 5,000 by Kelly (fourth, 14:27.14) and freshman Dermot Galvin of Kilrush, Ireland (fifth, 14:36.60). Junior Larry Morrissey (Waterford, Ireland) also scored for the Friars, placing fourth in the 1,500 meters (3:53.14).
On the women's side, PC was led by three-time All-American Sarah Dupre (Kingston, Ontario), who placed third in the 5,000 meters (16:37.24) and fifth in the 3,000 meters (9:35.80). PC junior Dana Ostrander (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) finished third in the 10,000 meters in a time of 35:30.27. Also in the 10,000, senior Gladys Ganiel (Harrington, Maine) placed fifth (36:20.16).
