FRIARS DEFEATED TWICE BY BOSTON UNIVERSITY... The Providence College Friars were defeated twice on Feb. 20-21 by the fourth-ranked Boston University Terriers. On Feb. 20, BU defeated the Friars, 5-1, at Schneider Arena. Junior Mike Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.) scored the lone goal for Providence. Goaltenders junior Mark Kane (St. Albert, Alberta) and freshman Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) combined to record 21 saves for the Friars. The following night, the Friars dropped a 3-2 decision to the Terriers at BU's Walter Brown Arena. Sophomore Fernando Pisani (Edmonton, Alberta) and freshman Mike Farrell (Carmel, Ind.) each scored for PC. Ballard registered 33 stops and earned the game's No. 2 star.

SELLOUT AT SCHNEIDER... On Friday, Feb. 20 the attendance of 3,030 at the PC vs. Boston University game marked the first sellout at Schneider Arena since PC defeated New Hampshire, 2-1, on Feb. 13, 1993.

OMICIOLI SCORES... Junior center Mike Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.) notched the Friars' only goal in a 5-1 loss to Boston University on Feb. 20 at Schneider Arena. For Omicioli, it marked his first point in five games and his first goal since he scored in PC's 7-2 win against Maine on Dec. 6. On Feb. 21, he recorded one assist in PC's 3-2 loss to the Terriers at Walter Brown Arena. On Jan. 23, he recorded two assists in PC's 2-2 tie with UMass-Lowell at the Tully Forum. For Omicioli, the two assists marked his ninth multiple-point game this season and the 18th in his three seasons at Providence. The W. Warwick, R.I. native leads the team in scoring (33 points) and assists (25). In 92 career games, he has notched 84 points (28 goals, 56 assists).

PISANI ENDS DROUGHT... Sophomore left wing Fernando Pisani (Edmonton, Alberta) tallied his team leading 14th goal in PC's 3-2 loss to Boston University on Feb. 21. For Pisani, it was his first goal since Jan. 23 and his first point the last six games. He notched two assists in PC's 6-3 loss to Brown on Jan. 31 at Schneider Arena. For Pisani it marked his eighth multiple-point game this season and the 13th of his career. On Jan. 9, he recorded four points (two goals, two assists) in PC's 6-4 win against Northeastern. His four points against Northeastern tied his career high. A 1996 eighth-round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers, Pisani has recorded 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists) in 66 career games.

BALLARD MAKES 33 SAVES IN LOSS... Freshman goaltender Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 33 saves and earned the game's No. 2 star in PC's 3-2 loss to Boston University on Feb. 21. For Ballard, it marked his first start in the last seven games. In 21 games this season, Ballard has posted a 10-9-1 mark, a 3.43 goals against average and an .890 save percentage.

NEXT GAMES... PC will play two games against Merrimack College on Feb. 27-28. On Feb. 27, the Friars will host the Warriors at Schneider Arena. The following night, PC will travel to Merrimack. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.

THE PROVIDENCE-MERRIMACK SERIES... Friday's game will be the 70th meeting between the two schools. Providence College holds a 54-13-2 lead in its series against Merrimack. The Friars have a 10-3-2 record against the Warriors in the last 15 games, including seven wins in the last seven games. In the most recent meeting between the two teams, the Friars defeated the Warriors, 2-0, on Feb. 8, 1998 at the Volpe Complex. The last time PC lost to Merrimack was a 4-3 defeat at Schneider Arena on Nov. 5, 1994. The two teams first met on Feb. 13, 1960 with PC defeating Merrimack, 7-1, at the Billerica Forum.
