Men's Hockey Holds Annual Black and White Scrimmage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior right wing Jon Cameron (Langley, British Columbia) tallied the game-winning goal at 13:20 of the first period as the White Team defeated the Black Team, 4-1, in Providence College's annual preseason intrasquad scrimmage at Schneider Arena.
Freshman right wing Joe Giantonio (Everett, Mass.) gave the White squad a 1-0 lead as he slid a low shot under sophomore goaltender Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) at the 14:00 minute mark of the first period. After Cameron's tally gave the White Team a two goal lead, junior Jerry Keefe (Billerica, Mass.) one timed a pass from junior right wing Fernando Pisani (Edmonton, Alberta) past netminder Mark Kane (St. Albert, Alberta) at 21:00 to bring the Black Team within one goal, 2-1.
In the second period, the White Team sealed the win with insurance goals from senior left wing Jon Coe (Anoka, Minn.) at 5:00 and junior defenseman Rich Miller (Bethany, Conn.) at 15:00.
Kane made 20 saves and recorded the win for the White Team. Ballard and freshman goaltender Matt Curran (Norfolk, Mass.) combined to make 20 stops for the Black Team.
The Friars will open their 1998-99 season with an exhibition game against the University of Toronto on Saturday, October 17 at Schneider Arena. The game will start at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.
The team will begin its regular-season schedule against CCHA foe Miami University on October 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena. The following night, PC will host Lake Superior State at 7:00 p.m.
