Men's Hockey Drops Final Game to UNH, 3-2

Friars Lose Final Game of Regular Season To UNH... The Providence College Friars were defeated, 3-2, in their final game of the regular season by the New Hampshire Wildcats on March 6 at Schneider Arena. Freshman Cole Gendreau (Bismarck, N.D.) and Jon Cameron (Langley, British Columbia) each scored for the Friars. Freshman goaltender Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 37 stops and earned the game's No. 2 star in the loss.

Gendreau Tallies First Collegiate Goal... Freshman Cole Gendreau (Bismarck, N.D.) tallied his first collegiate goal and point in the Friars' 3-2 loss to the UNH Wildcats on March 6 at Schneider Arena. Gendreau, who spent two seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL prior to attending Providence, has played 12 games this season for the Friars.

Ballard Registers 37 Stops in Loss to Wildcats... Freshman goaltender Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 37 stops in PC's 3-2 loss to the UNH Wildcats on March 6. For his efforts he earned the game's No. 2 star. In 24 games this season, Ballard has posted a 12-10-1 mark, a 3.38 goals against average and an .891 save percentage.

Frairs Finish in Seventh Place... The Providence College Friars finished the regular season with a 15-16-3 mark and a 9-13-2 record in HOCKEY EAST play. With a 9-13-2 record PC finished in seventh place in the HOCKEY EAST standings. It marks the first time in 14 seasons of HOCKEY EAST action that the Friars finished lower than sixth place.

Next Games... PC will battle the Boston College Eagles in a best-of-three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinals series on March 12-14 at BC's Kelley Rink. It will mark the second time in the last three years the two teams have met in the HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinals.

The Providence-Boston College Series... Thursday's game will be the 116th meeting between the two schools. Boston College leads the all-time series 73-36-6. The two teams first met on Dec. 1, 1953 with Boston College defeating Providence, 8-5, at the Rhode Island Auditorium. In the most recent meeting between the two teams, PC and BC skated to a 3-3 tie at Kelley Rink on Feb. 6, 1998. The Friars' last win against the Eagles was a 4-2 victory on Feb. 7, 1997 at Schneider Arena. PC's last loss to Boston College was a 8-0 shutout on Jan. 17 at Schneider Arena.

at Kelley Rink... The Friars have posted 4-10-2 record against BC at Kelley Rink. In PC's last game against BC at Kelley Rink, the Eagles and the Friars skated to a 3-3 tie on Feb. 6, 1998. PC's last win against BC at Kelley Rink was a 4-1 victory on Feb. 9, 1996. PC's last loss to the Eagles at Kelley Rink was a 6-0 defeat on Jan. 16, 1998.

PC vs. BC In The Hockey East Tournament... Since 1984-85, Providence and Boston College have met four times in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament with two of the games going into double overtime. PC holds a 3-1 mark against the Eagles in HOCKEY EAST Tournament action. In 1984-85, PC defeated BC, 2-1, in double overtime in the HOCKEY EAST Finals at the Providence Civic Center. In 1988-89, the Eagles defeated the Friars, 6-5, in double overtime in the HOCKEY EAST Semifinals at the Conte Forum. In 1995-96, PC defeated the Eagles in the first two games (5-2 and 4-2) of the best-of-three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinal series at Schneider Arena.

This Season Against BC... This season, Providence College has posted a 0-2-1 mark against the Eagles. On Jan. 16, BC defeated PC, 6-0, at Kelley Rink. Freshman Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) and junior Mark Kane (St. Albert, Alberta) combined to make 33 stops for the Friars. The following night, the Eagles earned their second consecutive shutout against PC with an 8-0 win at Schneider Arena. Ballard and Kane made 26 saves in net. On Feb. 6, the two teams met for the final time during the regular season and skated to a 3-3 tie at Kelley Rink. Sophomores Josh MacNevin (W. Lethbridge, Alberta), Jerry Keefe (Billerica, Mass.) and Nick Lent (Westwood, Mass.) all scored for the Friars. Kane made a season high 32 stops in net for the Friars.
