Last Game
- Tanner Adams scored twice in the third period and Jack Parsons posted his second shutout of the season as the No. 11 Providence College men's hockey team blanked No. 18 Boston University, 4-0, on Saturday night (Jan. 24) at Agganis Arena.
- Providence got on the board at the 2:03 mark of the first period as John Mustard slipped through the Terrier defense and beat Yegorov to the blocker side for his 10th goal of the season. Julius Sumpf earned the lone assist on the play.
- The Friars' penalty kill came up huge late in the second period after Mustard was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for contact to the head.
- Jack Parsons stopped all 12 shots he faced in the second period.
- Julius Sumpf gave the Friars a 2-0 lead at 10:34 of the third period with his third goal of the season after finishing off a rebound from Aleksi Kivioja. Clint Levens earned the secondary assist on the play.
- Tanner Adams added an insurance marker at 17:26 then capped the scoring with an empty-net goal with 18 seconds remaining for his eighth goal of the season.
- Parsons shut the door with 33 saves on the night and his second shutout of the season.
- The Friars recorded their first win at Agganis Arena since Oct. 26, 2018 and swept both Boston College and Boston University in the same season for the first time in program history.
- Providence earned its first weekend sweep over Boston University since Oct. 30-31, 1998.
- The seven wins in the month of January are the most in January since winning eight in 1974.
- The Friars currently ride a six-game winning streak overall and a seven-game Hockey East winning streak. They are averaging 4.17 goals per game and allowing 1.67 goals per game over that stretch.
 
Scouting the Black Bears:
- Maine enters Saturday night's contest at 14-9-2 (8-7-0 HEA) after completing a two-game road sweep at UMass Lowell last weekend by scores of 2-0 and 6-5 (OT).
- The Black Bears are led by freshman Justin Poirier, who ranks sixth in the NCAA in goals (17) and 22nd in points (28). Brandon Holt (5-17-22), Josh Nadeau (10-7-17) and Miguel Marques (7-10-17) round out the top scorers for Maine.
- In goal, Albin Boija has posted a 10-6-2 record with a 2.56 GAA and .900 save percentage in 18 games this season. Freshman Mathis Rousseau has appeared in nine games with a 2.80 GAA and .893 save percentage.
- In his fifth season in Orono, Head Coach Ben Barr has posted a 83-67-19 record.
 
Series History vs. Maine (63-71-8, .472)
- Providence and Maine will meet for the last of three meetings this Saturday at Alfond Arena. Providence completed a two-game sweep over the Black Bears at Schneider Arena from Jan. 9-10. With the two regulation wins, Providence clinched the season series.
- The Friars make their first visit to Orono in nearly two seasons, with that last meeting coming on Feb. 10, 2024 as Providence earned a 4-3 overtime win thanks to a Guillaume Richard game-winning goal.
- The Friars are 20-45-4 all-time at Alfond Arena and are 6-5 in the last 11 matchups dating back to the start of the 2013-14 season.
 
Roger McQueen Nominated For The 2026 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College freshman Roger McQueen was named as the Friars' nominee for the 2026 Hobey Baker Award. The 10th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft of the Anaheim Ducks leads Providence in scoring this season with 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists. He has totaled five multi-point games this season, including a career-high three points on two goals and one assist against Merrimack on Nov. 14. In Hockey East games, McQueen has totaled six goals and seven assists in 14 games with a +10 rating. He ranks third in Hockey East with 248 faceoff wins.
 
Jack Parsons Earns Hockey East Goaltender of the Week Honors
Freshman goaltender Jack Parsons (Cortland, N.Y.) was named Stop It Goaltending Hockey East Goaltender of the Week on Monday (Jan. 26). Parsons earns his second weekly award this month after being named Rookie of the Week on Jan. 12. Parsons finished the weekend sweep over No. 18 Boston University with a 1.50 GAA and .941 save percentage. He stopped 48-of-51 shots he faced over the weekend, including a 33-save shutout in the Friars' 4-0 win at Agganis Arena on Saturday. Parsons has posted a 7-1-0 record with a 2.11 GAA and .922 save percentage in nine appearances this season.
 
Former Friar Nick Saracino '16 Named To Italy's Roster For 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics
Former Providence College men's hockey national champion Nick Saracino '16 (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to Italy's roster for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games set to run from Feb. 5-19. Saracino becomes the second men's hockey player to participate in the Olympics for Italy, joining Gates Orlando (1992, 1994, 1998).
 
Goaltender Michael Simpson Added To The Roster
Michael Simpson joins the Friars after spending this season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL. With Savannah, Simpson recorded a 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage in 10 games played. He participated in training camp with the Florida Panthers prior to the start of this season. In 2024-25, he appeared in a total of 16 games split between Belleville (AHL) and Orlando (ECHL). The two-time OHL Champion won titles with the Peterborough Petes in 2022-23, alongside current Friar Donovan McCoy, and a championship the following season with the London Knights in 2023-24. He earned the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as OHL Playoff MVP with Peterborough in 2023 after turning in a pair of 50-save performances during the OHL Championship Series. He guided London to an OHL title and a runner-up finish in the Memorial Cup in 2024, winning the Happ Emms Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Goaltender of the Memorial Cup. Simpson was a two-time OHL All-Star Team selection in 2023 (Third Team) and 2024 (Second Team).
 
Friars By The Numbers
The Friars are the ninth tallest roster in the NCAA (6'1"), seventh youngest (21.1 years). Providence is just one of only three programs to have one senior on their roster. The Friars boasted the sixth-most NHL players that appeared in games during the 2024-25 season with 14 total.
 
The Saskatchewan Connection
Three members of this year's roster hail from Saskatchewan - Hudson Malinoski, Roger McQueen and Quinn Mantei. Malinoski and McQueen are childhood friends and played together with the Saskatoon Blazers AAA squad in 2021-22. Mantei and McQueen were teammates with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-25.
 
Drafted Friars
Providence boasts seven drafted players on the 2025-26 roster: Tomas Machu (NYI - 2021), Hudson Malinoski (TOR - 2023), John Mustard (CHI - 2024), Julius Sumpf (CHI - 2025), Roger McQueen (ANA - 2025), Logan Sawyer (MTL - 2024) and Philip Svedeback (BOS - 2021). McQueen became the highest draft pick in program history after being selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2025. Friar commit Everett Baldwin was also selected in the 2025 NHL Draft, going to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round.

The Friars are 249-24-28 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.

The Friars are 222-13-23 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
