Sawyer Scores In Overtime, No. 9 Men's Hockey Rallies For 3-2 Win at No. 17 Maine

Logan Sawyer registered his second overtime goal in the last five games.

ORONO, Maine – Andrew Centrella tied the game with 5.5 seconds left in regulation and Logan Sawyer scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the No. 9 Providence College men's hockey team rallied for a 3-2 win on the road against Maine at Alfond Arena on Saturday (Jan. 31). With the win, the Friars extend their winning streak to seven games.

NOTES

- Justin Poirier gave the Black Bears an early lead at 4:45 of the first period.

- The Friars responded at the 9:01 mark as Alex Rybakov finished off a rebound from Tomas Machu for his third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Jonathan Fauchon registered the secondary assist on the play.

- Maine re-gained the lead at 16:47 of the first period on a goal from Loic Usereau to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

- The teams played nearly 40 more minutes of scoreless play until the closing seconds.

- Andrew Centrella capped a furious attack with Parsons pulled for an extra attacker, as he buried a cross-ice feed from Roger McQueen with 5.5 seconds left in regulation. The goal was Centrella's third of the season.

- Logan Sawyer closed the game out with his second overtime winner in the last five games and his team-high 11th goal of the season. Tanner Adams and Quinn Mantei assisted on the game-winning goal.

- The Friars matched their most wins (8) in the month of January in program history, matching the 1973-74 team.

- Providence is 8-0-0 over its last eight Hockey East games dating back to Nov. 22. It's the longest streak in league play since 2017 (9 games)

- Jack Parsons improved to 8-1-0 with a 2.09 GAA and .922 save percentage this season.

- The Friars won in overtime at Alfond Arena for the fifth time in program history and have won back-to-back overtime games at Alfond Arena (Feb. 10, 2024).
