Last Game
- The No. 14 Providence College men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep over No. 12/13 Boston College with a 4-3 victory at Schneider Arena on Saturday (Jan. 17) at Schneider Arena. It was Providence's first weekend sweep over Boston College since 2002.
- The Friars exploded for three goals in the opening period to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room.
- John Mustard netted his team-high ninth goal of the season, finishing off a rebound from Graham Gamache at the 3:36 mark.
- After PC's Hudson Malinoski was assessed five-minute major and game misconduct, BC's Andre Gasseau re-directed a shot from James Hagens to tie the game at 7:00.
- Tanner Adams reclaimed the lead for Providence with a power-play goal, his sixth of the season on assists from Julius Sumpf and Will Elger.
- Jonathan Fauchon extended the lead to 3-1 at 17:10 with his seventh goal of the season. Roger McQueen and Kale McCallum earned the assists on the play.
- Logan Sawyer deposited his second goal of the weekend and ninth of the season to extend the Friar lead to 4-1. Sumpf and Adams earned the assists on the player.
- The Eagles got back within two with a 5-on-3 goal from Ryan Conmy at 15:41 of the second period.
- The Friars' Quinn Mantei was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct with 3:47 left in regulation to put the Eagles on the power play.
- Luka Radivojevic scored five seconds into the power play to cut the Providence lead to 4-3.
- The Providence defense and Jack Parsons stood tall to kill off the final minutes of the major to secure the win.
 
Scouting the Terriers:
- No. 18 Boston University (12-10-1, 8-7-0 HEA) enters the weekend after split against UMass Lowell last weekend that saw both road teams come out victorious. The Terriers are currently third in the Hockey East standings, one point behind the Friars with 24 points in 15 games played.
- Through 23 games this season, sophomore Cole Hutson leads the way for BU with 23 points on eight goals and 15 assists.  Senior Owen McLaughlin ranks second at 15 points (4-11-15) while Sacha Boisvert, who will miss this weekend's series due to league suspension, rounds out the top-three with 14 points (3-11-14).
- In net, Mikhail Yegorov has posted a 12-8-1 record with a 2.77 GAA and .903 save percentage while appearing in all 23 games for the Terriers.
- Head Coach Jay Pandolfo in his fourth season at the helm has posted an 93-45-5 record with three-consecutive Frozen Four appearances.
 
Series History vs. Boston University (60-120-20, .350)
- Boston University has boasted success in recent years as they are currently on a 8-1-1 run over the last 10 meetings against the Friars.
- Providence snapped a nine-game winless streak against BU last season with a 6-3 win on home ice on Feb. 14, 2025. The Terriers claimed both games at Agganis Arena by scores of 3-0 and 8-2.
- The Friars' last road win in the series came on Jan. 8, 2021 in a 7-3 win at Walter Brown Arena. The last Providence win at Agganis Arena came in a 5-0 win on Oct. 26, 2018.
 
Roger McQueen Nominated For The 2026 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College freshman Roger McQueen was named as the Friars' nominee for the 2026 Hobey Baker Award. The 10th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft of the Anaheim Ducks leads Providence in scoring this season with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists. He has totaled five multi-point games this season, including a career-high three points on two goals and one assist against Merrimack on Nov. 14. In Hockey East games, McQueen has totaled six goals and five assists in 12 games with a +9 rating. He ranks third in Hockey East with 230 faceoff wins.
 
Logan Sawyer Earns Hockey East Player of the Week Honors
Providence College sophomore Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, Ont.) was named Boston Children's Hospital Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday (Jan. 19). Sawyer earns his third-career weekly accolade after being a two-time Rookie of the Week selection in 2024-25. Sawyer registered both game-winning goals last weekend as the Friars swept Boston College in a weekend series for the first time since 2002. Sawyer scored the winner in overtime on Friday night at Conte Forum before netting the eventual game-winner on Saturday night in Providence's 4-3 win. This season, Sawyer ranks second on the team in scoring with 18 points and is tied for the team lead in goals with nine.
 
Former Friar Nick Saracino '16 Named To Italy's Roster For 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics
Former Providence College men's hockey national champion Nick Saracino '16 (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to Italy's roster for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games set to run from Feb. 5-19. Saracino becomes the second men's hockey player to participate in the Olympics for Italy, joining Gates Orlando (1992, 1994, 1998).
 
Goaltender Michael Simpson Added To The Roster
Michael Simpson joins the Friars after spending this season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL. With Savannah, Simpson recorded a 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage in 10 games played. He participated in training camp with the Florida Panthers prior to the start of this season. In 2024-25, he appeared in a total of 16 games split between Belleville (AHL) and Orlando (ECHL). The two-time OHL Champion won titles with the Peterborough Petes in 2022-23, alongside current Friar Donovan McCoy, and a championship the following season with the London Knights in 2023-24. He earned the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as OHL Playoff MVP with Peterborough in 2023 after turning in a pair of 50-save performances during the OHL Championship Series. He guided London to an OHL title and a runner-up finish in the Memorial Cup in 2024, winning the Happ Emms Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Goaltender of the Memorial Cup. Simpson was a two-time OHL All-Star Team selection in 2023 (Third Team) and 2024 (Second Team).
 
Friars By The Numbers
The Friars are the ninth tallest roster in the NCAA (6'1"), seventh youngest (21.1 years). Providence is just one of only three programs to have one senior on their roster. The Friars boasted the sixth-most NHL players that appeared in games during the 2024-25 season with 14 total.
 
The Saskatchewan Connection
Three members of this year's roster hail from Saskatchewan - Hudson Malinoski, Roger McQueen and Quinn Mantei. Malinoski and McQueen are childhood friends and played together with the Saskatoon Blazers AAA squad in 2021-22. Mantei and McQueen were teammates with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-25.
 
Drafted Friars
Providence boasts seven drafted players on the 2025-26 roster: Tomas Machu (NYI - 2021), Hudson Malinoski (TOR - 2023), John Mustard (CHI - 2024), Julius Sumpf (CHI - 2025), Roger McQueen (ANA - 2025), Logan Sawyer (MTL - 2024) and Philip Svedeback (BOS - 2021). McQueen became the highest draft pick in program history after being selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2025. Friar commit Everett Baldwin was also selected in the 2025 NHL Draft, going to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round.

The Friars are 247-24-28 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.

The Friars are 220-13-23 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
