Last Time Out vs. Northeastern
- The No. 6/6 Providence College men's ice hockey team closed out their regular season with a win on Saturday, March 8, beating Northeastern 3-2 at Matthews Arena.
- Neither team broke onto the scoreboard through the first period, leaving the 0-0 score intact.
- The Friars tacked on the first goal of the game early in the second, when Will Elger redirected a Guillaume Richard try into the back of the net, giving Elger his eighth goal of the season and making it 1-0.
- Providence doubled their lead just over two minutes later, as Logan Sawyer cashed in on the man-advantage, making it a 2-0 game.
- The Huskies pulled back within a goal midway through the second period, when Jake Higgins connected on net to make it 2-1.
- Northeastern found the equalizer with 7:31 to play in the third period, as Dylan Hryckowian capitalized on the power-play to knot it up at 2-2.
- Just 37 seconds later, Malinoski redirected a piece of a Connor Kelley shot into the back of the net, giving the Friars the final 3-2 advantage.
- With the win, the Friars closed out the regular season with a 21-9-5 record, including an 11-8-5 record in Hockey East action.

Scouting the Huskies:
- No. 8/9 Connecticut (20-10-4, 12-8-4 HEA) enters their matchup with the Friars following a 4-1 road win at Vermont on Thursday (March 6).
- Through 34 games this season, Joey Muldowney (22-17-39) leads the team in goals with 22, followed by Ryan Tattle (17-12-29) with 17 and Jake Richard (15-20-35) with 15.
- Hudson Schandor (9-30-39) paces the Huskies in assists this season with 30, followed by Richard with 20, Muldowney with 17, and both Trey Scott (3-14-17) and Kai Janviriya (0-14-14) with 14 apiece.
- Overall, Schandor and Muldowney lead the team in total points with 39 apiece, followed by Richard with 35 points and Tattle with 29 points.
- In net, the Huskies have split starts between junior goaltender Tyler Muszelik and freshman netminder Callum Tung. In 20 appearances this season, Muszelik has guided the Huskies to a 11-5-3 record, putting up a .914 save percentage and 2.26 goals against average in the process. In 12 games, Tung has posted a 8-3-1 record to accompany his .934 save percentage and 2.06 goals against average.
- This season, UConn has tallied nine goals on the penalty-kill, the highest total across the NCAA. The Huskies were last successful on a shorthanded goal from Joey Muldowney in the first period of the team's 5-2 win over Alaska Anchorage on Feb. 12.

Friday night's playoff matchup with Connecticut marks the third meeting between the Friars and Huskies this season. The two teams last met in a home-and-home series on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, where the teams fought to a 3-3 tie in Providence before the Friars took a 6-3 win over the Huskies in Hartford. Since the 2021-22 season, Providence has fought to a 3-2-3 record against UConn, including a 1-1-2 record when facing the Huskies at home and a 2-1-1 record while on the road. Friday also marks the second postseason meeting between the schools with the Friars coming away victorious in a 6-1 win in the 2021 Hockey East Quarterfinals at Freitas Ice Fourm. Both Nick Poisson and Chase Yoder appeared in that game for the Friars as Poisson registered a goal and assist while Yoder chipped in with an assist.
 
Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).
 
Callahan/Ford Make NHL Debuts
Former Friar captain Mike Callahan '22 made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished the night with a +1 rating in 14:11 of ice time. He has appeared in seven games for Boston this season. Parker Ford made his NHL debut for the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 30 against his hometown Boston Bruins, scoring a goal in his debut.
 
Connelly Wins Gold With the U.S. At The 2025 World Junior Championship
Freshman Trevor Connelly won gold with the United States at 2025 World Junior Championship after their 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Connelly finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +3 rating over seven games.
 
Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, 2024, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.
 
Leading the Pack
Through 35 games this season, Hudson Malinoski (11-12-23) and Tanner Adams (11-11-22) each lead the Friars with 11 goals apiece, followed by 10 from Graham Gamache (10-9-19) and eight from Logan Will (8-15-23), Will Elger (8-10-18), and Nick Poisson (8-8-16). Logan Will headlines the team in assists with 15 on the year, followed by John Mustard (7-13-20) and Austen May (0-13-13) with 13 assists apiece and four players with 12 assists on the season. Overall, Malinoski and Will pace the team with 23 total points each, followed by Adams with 22 points and Mustard with 20 points. This season, 22 different players have tallied a point, including 14 players with 10+ points and eight players with 15+ points.
 
King of the Hill
Through all 24 conference matchups, Providence (21-9-5, 11-8-5 HEA) finished the regular season in fifth place in the Hockey East standings with 39 points. Boston College (26-6-2, 18-4-2 HEA) finished in first place with 55 points, followed by Maine (21-7-6, 13-5-6 HEA) in second place with 50 points, Boston University (20-12-2, 14-8-2 HEA) in third place with 46 points, and Connecticut (20-10-4, 12-8-4 HEA) in fourth place with 40 points. Providence will travel to Storrs, Conn. on Friday, March 14 for their conference quarterfinal matchup.
 
Yoder Sets Program Record For Games Played
Appearing in his 163rd game as a Friar on Feb. 8, captain Chase Yoder stands along with the most games played in program history, passing former teammate Cam McDonald.
 
Quality Check
Following a road loss to Boston University, the Friars close out the regular season with an 8-9-3 record against opponents in the top 20 this season, including a 4-8-3 record in Hockey East action. This weekend, Providence battles No. 8/9 UConn in the Hockey East quarterfinal round.
 
Svedebäck, Richard, Adams Nominated for 2025 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College men's ice hockey junior goaltender Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden), senior defenseman Guillaume Richard (Cap-Sante, Que.), and sophomore forward Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) were all named as nominees for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award on Wednesday (Jan. 22). In 24 games this season, Svedebäck has posted a 14-6-4 record alongside a 2.37 GAA and .914 save percentage. Richard has posted one goal and 12 assists this season to go alongside a team-leading 41 blocked shots. Adams paces the Friars in goals this season with 11 and is tied for third in overall scoring with 22 points on the year.
 
Quick Draw
This season, the Friars have won 54.7% of their face-offs, tied with Western Michigan for the fourth-best total across the NCAA.

The Friars are 234-24-28 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
