STORRS, Conn. – The No. 7/8 Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by No. 8/9 UConn, 3-1, in the Hockey East Quarterfinals at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn. on Friday (March 14).

- After going to the penalty kill just 2:34 in, it was the Friars who struck first shorthanded on Guillaume Richard's second tally of the season as he one-timed a feed from Graham Gamache past Muszelik on an odd-man rush.
- The Friars held a 10-6 shot advantage after one period.
- The Huskies managed to get even on the scoreboard with 3:25 left in the second period as Hudson Schandor fired a shot from the high slot that deflected off Tomas Machu and past Svedebäck to knot the game at 1-1.
- Joey Muldowney gave UConn a 2-1 lead just 20 seconds into the third period.
- The Friars continued to push throughout the third period, with the best chance coming off the stick of Nick Poisson from point-blank range.
- Muldowney added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to account for the final score.
- Providence suffered their first loss this season when scoring the first goal of the game (14-1-3).
- Philip Svedebäck made 26 saves in his first action since Feb. 28.
