Stefan Vaaks recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights, 94-64, on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. Graduate student Jason Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Friars with 24 points.  Graduate student guard Jaylin Sellers (Columbus, Ga.) added 21 points.  Freshman Stefan Vaaks (Tabasalu, Estonia) recorded his first career double-double, with 10 points and 10 assists.   

"Good to be back home after a rough trip out west," Head Coach Kim English said. "We had a good couple of days of work. I thought our guys came out really well and responded to some key areas that we focused on."   

FIRST HALF: 

• Jaylin Sellers connected on a three to open the scoring on the first possession of the game to make it 3-0, Providence (19:41).  

• A block by Oswin Erhunmwunse (Benin City, Nigeria) followed by a Corey Floyd Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) deflection led to a FDU shot clock violation, which led to a Floyd Jr. three to make it 6-0 Providence (18:51). 

• Providence took the 10-2 lead when Erhunmwunse connected on back-to-back buckets on two passes from Stefan Vaaks. Vaaks assisted on three of the first four field goals for the Friars.  

• A logo three-pointer from Vaaks sparked an 8-0 run that included a Jason Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) midrange followed by another Vaaks three which forced a FDU timeout. The Friars started the game a perfect 4-4 from three and 7-9 overall from the field.  

• Edwards found the cutting Jamier Jones (Sarasota, Fla.) for an alley-oop dunk to make it 20-5, Friars (13:44).  

• Cole Hargrove (Norristown, Pa.) found the cutting Jaylen Harrel (Boston, Mass.) for an easy two to respond to an FDU bucket after the Friars held the Knights scoreless for 4:45.  

• The Friars led 24-7 going into the under 12-minute media timeout.  

• Sellers connected on a three to give the Friars their first 20-point lead of the night, 27-7 (9:12).  

• Sellers made back-to-back three pointers, giving him four on the night, to cap a 23-4 Providence run (6:51).  

• An Edwards three extended the Friars lead, 38-14 (4:26). 

Peteris Pinnis (Salaspils, Latvia) connected on a layup on an entry pass from Sellers to make it five straight Friar field goals going into the media timeout (3:31).  

• Out of the timeout, Edwards connected on a pullup jumper to extend the Friars lead, 42-14.  

• On the following possession, Vaaks found Floyd Jr. for a corner three to make 45-14, Providence (2:46). The make marked the Friars seventh consecutive field goal.  

• Sellers connected on his season high fifth three-pointer to make it eight straight Friar buckets (1:41).  

• The Friars closed out the first half with an Erhunmwunse alley-oop pass to Vaaks. 

• Providence led at the half, 52-21.  

• Providence shot 20-35 (57.1%) from the field, 10-16 (62.5%) from three, and 2-3 (66.7%) from the free-throw line.   

• FDU shot 7-30 (23.3%) from the field, 3-14 (21.4%) from three, and 4-5 (80%) from the free-throw line.    

• Sellers led the Friars in the first half with 15 points and three rebounds.  

• Arthur Cox led FDU with seven points.  

• Edwards had 11 points.  

• Vaaks had eight points, a career high six assists and two steals in the first half. 

• The 21 points the Friars allowed marks the lowest first half points allowed of the season, and the lowest since 12/10/23 vs. Brown (13).  

SECOND HALF: 

• Sellers continued his success from the field, opening the second half scoring for the Friars on a pullup midrange jump shot (18:38). 

• The next two minutes featured two Erhunmwunse blocks, an Erhunmwunse steal and two Erhunmwunse baskets along with another Vaaks assist.  

• Providence led at the first media timeout, 58-34 (16:01).  

• Out of the timeout, Edwards converted on a corner three to extend the Providence lead.  

• Back-to-back threes from Edwards and Floyd Jr. made it 67-39 (14:24).  

• Jones got out in transition and found Sellers for an alley-oop dunk to extend the Providence lead.  

• An Edwards three capped an 8-0 Providence which forced an FDU timeout (12:49).  

• Vaaks found the cutting Sellers for an emphatic dunk in the lane to extend the Friars' lead.  

• Erhunmwunse's fifth block of the night led to a fast break that resulted in two Harrel free throws.  

• Vaaks found the cutting Floyd Jr. For an alley-oop dunk to give him his 10th assist of the night.  

• Edwards recorded a steal and got out in transition to make it 82-57 going in to the under four-minute media timeout (3:47).  

• Vaaks connected on a driving layup to give him ten points and his first career double-double.   

• Hargrove converted on an and one layup to make it 89-64 with under two minutes remaining. 

• Jack Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich.) converted on a three pointer for his first career points.  

• Providence finished the game on an 8-0 run. Final score 94-64.  

HIGHLIGHTS: 

• Providence shot 35-60 (58.3%) from the field, 15-27 (55.6%) from three, and 9-11 (81.8%) from the free-throw line.   

• FDU shot 22-61 (36.1%) from the field, 11-26 (42.3%) from three, and 9-11 (81.8%) from the free-throw line.     

Stefan Vaaks finished with a career-high 10 assists. 

• Stefan Vaaks' double-double marked the first Friar double-double with points and assists since Jared Bynum against Villanova on 3/1/22 (19 points, 10 assists).  

• It is the second time this season that both Sellers and Edwards had 20 or more points.  

• Seller tied his career high in three pointers made with five, all of which came in the first half.  

• For the first time this season, the Friars made 15 or more three pointers in a game.  

• Four players finished in double figures for the Friars: Edwards (24), Sellers (21), Floyd Jr.(11) and Vaaks (10)  

• The Friars marked a season-high 28 team assists.  

• Through six games the Friars are averaging 90.4 points per game 

Oswin Erhunmwunse finished with six blocks, bringing his season total to 30 which leads the BIG EAST.  

Stefan Vaaks had two three-pointers in the game, marking his ninth game of the season where he has recorded two or more threes. 

• The Friars have posted a 5-1 mark all-time versus FDU. The Friars are 5-1 at home versus Fairleigh Dickinson. 

• The Friars have posted a 33-6 mark all-time versus teams from the NEC.
