Last Game
- Will Elger scored twice and Philip Svedeback made 28 saves as the No. 14/13 Providence College men's hockey team earned its first victory of the season with a 5-1 decision over RPI on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18) at Houston Fieldhouse.
- The Friars held a territorial advantage over the Engineers in the first period, outshooting the hosts by a 7-3 margin and successfully killing off two power-play chances for RPI.
- Will Elger gave Providence its first lead of the 2025-26 season as he wired a wrist shot short-side on Carson Dorfman for his first goal of the season. Hudson Malinoski and Andrew Centrella earned assists on the play.
- The Friars extended their lead to three early in the second period.
- Clint Levens buried his first of the season off a backhand feed from Beau Jelsma at 5:20 of the second period. Jelsma tallied his first collegiate point with the assist.
- Elger struck for his second of the day, this time on the power play to give Providence a 3-0 lead. Julius Sumpf and Roger McQueen both earned their first NCAA points on the play.
- Jonathan Fauchon scored his first NCAA goal with a power-play strike at 8:10 of the third period. John Mustard and Centrella assisted on the play.
- Logan Sawyer capped the scoring for the Friars with his first goal of the season at 11:01.
- Ten Friars found the scoresheet on Saturday night. Elger and Centrella led the way with two points each.
 
Preseason Notes
- Coming off their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024-25, the Friars enter the 2025-26 campaign returning five of their six top scorers from a season ago - Hudson Malinoski, Tanner Adams, John Mustard, Graham Gamache and Will Elger.
- A revamped roster consists of 12 newcomers to the program, highlighted by the 10th overall selection of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2025 NHL Draft, Roger McQueen (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Chicago fourth-rounder Julius Sumpf (Munich, Germany). The Friars also bring in reigning QMJHL MVP Jonathan Fauchon (Saint-Claire, Quebec), who led the league in scoring last season with 103 points on 46 goals and 57 assists, also earning Third Team All-CHL accolades.
- The team was selected to finish second in the 2025 Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Tuesday (Sept. 16). Providence earned three first-place votes while tallying 91 points in the poll. The Friars begin the regular season seventh in the USCHO.com Poll and sixth in the USA Hockey/AHCA Poll.
- The Friars announced junior Graham Gamache as the team's captain for the 2025-26 season. Hudson Malinoski, Aleksi Kivioja and Tomas Machu will serve as alternate captains.
 
Scouting the Tommies:
- St. Thomas (2-3-0) enters the weekend coming off a road split at Air Force where the Tommies earned a 11-2 win on Friday before the Falcons responded with a 6-2 win on Saturday night. St. Thomas started off the season with a road victory at St. Cloud State (4-3), and a pair of losses against North Dakota (6-2, 5-2).
- The Tommies are led by Alex Gaffney (4-5-9), Nick Williams (1-4-5) and Chase Cheslock (0-5-5). Overall, 11 different players have scored goals for St. Thomas this season.
- In goal, Carson Musser has started four of five games for St. Thomas, posting a 4.76 GAA and .835 save percentage. Aaron Trotter has made two appearances, including one start with a 2.50 GAA and .911 save percentage.
- Head Coach Rico Blasi enters his fifth season at the helm after spending one season as an administrator for the men's and women's hockey programs at Providence during the 2020-21 season. He guided the Tommies to a 19-15-4 record during the 2024-25 season.

Providence welcomes seven newcomers to the program with CHL experience due to the new NCAA rule change in the offseason: Donovan McCoy (Sudbury - OHL), Jonathan Fauchon (Rimouski - QMJHL), Beau Jelsma (Barrie - OHL), Kale McCallum (Val-d'Ors - QMJHL/U. of New Brunswick), Quinn Mantei (Brandon - WHL), Julius Sumpf (Moncton - QMJHL) and Roger McQueen (Brandon - WHL).
 
Nine Former Friars Make NHL Opening Night Rosters
Nine Providence College alums appeared on NHL rosters submitted for opening night - Jacob Bryson (BUF), Mark Jankowski (CAR), Jake Walman (EDM), Noel Acciari (PIT), Vincent Desharnais (SJ), Max Crozier (TB), Brandon Tanev (UTAH), Brandon Duhaime (WSH) and Parker Ford (WPG).
 
Philly Special
Senior netminder Philip Svedeback is the current active NCAA wins leader at 47 wins and ranks second with 98 career games played and minutes played (5824:51).
 
Friars By The Numbers
The Friars are the ninth tallest roster in the NCAA (6'1"), seventh youngest (21.1 years). Providence is just one of only three programs to have one senior on their roster. The Friars boasted the sixth-most NHL players that appeared in games during the 2024-25 season with 14 total.
 
The Saskatchewan Connection
Three members of this year's roster hail from Saskatchewan - Hudson Malinoski, Roger McQueen and Quinn Mantei. Malinoski and McQueen are childhood friends and played together with the Saskatoon Blazers AAA squad in 2021-22. Mantei and McQueen were teammates with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-25.
 
Drafted Friars
Providence boasts seven drafted players on the 2025-26 roster: Tomas Machu (NYI - 2021), Hudson Malinoski (TOR - 2023), John Mustard (CHI - 2024), Julius Sumpf (CHI - 2025), Roger McQueen (ANA - 2025), Logan Sawyer (MTL - 2024) and Philip Svedeback (BOS - 2021). McQueen became the highest draft pick in program history after being selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2025. Friar commit Everett Baldwin was also selected in the 2025 NHL Draft, going to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 235-24-28 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.

The Friars are 209-12-22 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
