Jason Edwards And Oswin Erhunmwunse Named Preseason All-BIG EAST

Edwards enters his first season with the Friars after transferring and Erhunmwunse begins his sophomore season at PC.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- It was announced today (Oct. 21) that Providence graduate student Jason Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Oswin Erhunmwunse (Benin City, Nigeria) each earned All-BIG EAST Preseason Honors.  Edwards, who transferred to Providence after spending the 2024-25 season at Vanderbilt, averaged 17.0 points and 2.0 rebounds last season for the Commodores.  He was named Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team. Erhunmwunse was named to the 2025 BIG EAST All-Freshman Team after he averaged 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Friars last season. The sophomore center was named Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. 

Edwards, a 6-1, 175-pound guard, played the 2024-25 season at Vanderbilt where he started 24 of the team's 33 games and helped the team post a 20-13 mark and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Edwards led the team in scoring (562 points/17.0 ppg) and free throws made (143).  He was second on the team in threes made (65) and free throw percentage (.831/143-172).  Edwards ranked eighth in the Southeastern Conference in scoring in overall action (17.0 ppg) and he was 13th in free-throw percentage (.831) and in three-point field goal percentage (.353/65-184).  He recorded 10 games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 30-point effort versus TCU on December 8, 2024.  For his efforts, he earned All-SEC Third Team honors.

Edwards spent the 2023-24 season at North Texas where he led the team in scoring (650 points/19.1 ppg) and threes (84).  He shot 35.0 percent from three-point territory (84-240) and 80.7 percent from the free-throw line (138-171) in 34 games.  He registered five games with 30 or more points, including a career-best of 37 points against Tulane on January 6, 2024.  He was named First Team All-AAC.  Edwards also received First Team NABC All-District accolades.

In 2022-23, Edwards attended Dodge City Community College where he scored 765 points (21.9 ppg) and sank 96 threes.  He was the nation's second leading scorer with 765 points and his 96 threes were the ninth most made in the nation.  Edwards scored 20 or more points 23 times and registered 30 or more points four times.  He shot 41 percent from three-point territory (96-236) and 78 percent from the free-throw line (139-178).  He was named 2023 NJCAA First Team All-American (just one of two freshmen to earn First Team honors).  Edwards also was recognized as the 2023 Kansas Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year and he received 2023 NJCAA DI National Tournament All-Tournament Team honors.

In three seasons of collegiate action, Edwards has scored 1,977 points in 102 games (19.4 ppg).  He has made 245 three-point baskets during those three seasons.

Erhunmwunse led the Friars in field goal percentage (72.3 percent), rebounds (179/5.6 rpg) and blocks (52/1.6 bpg) last season. He started 24 of 32 games in 2024-25. Erhunmwunse ranked second in the BIG EAST in blocks per game (1.63) and third in offensive rebounding (2.71).  At 72.3 percent, Erhunmwunse connected on 94 of his 130 attempts from the field. He recorded his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Seton Hall on Jan. 11.  He also added a career-high five blocks.  It marked the first time a Friar freshman had five blocks in a game since 2011.  It also marked just the second time ever a Friar freshman had five blocks in a BIG EAST game. 

Also announced on Oct. 21  was the 2025-26 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Poll.  The Friars recieved 64 points in the poll and were selected to finish fourth of 11 teams.

The Friars will host Harvard in an exhibition game on Saturday, October 25 at 4 p.m.,  and the team will open the 2025-26 season on November 3 as they host Holy Cross at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.  Fans interested in purchasing tickets can call 401-865-GO PC or visit Friars.com.
