PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the Friar Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. It will begin with the women's race at 3:15 pm, followed by the men's race at 4:00 pm. The Friar men and women will race against the University of Rhode Island, University of New Hampshire, and Brown University.
The women will be led by graduate student
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England). Flockhart placed ninth (20:40.73) at the 2023 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship as well as a 13th (20:09.5) place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals that fall. Flockhart went on to compete at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championship and finished in a time of 20:28.5.
Senior
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) had a successful 2023 cross country season as she placed fifth (14:21.4) at the Friar Invitational. Mooney went on to place 12th (20:57.20) at the BIG East Cross Country Championship and 27th (20:31.8) at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. Mooney closed out the season at the NCAA Cross Country Championships where she finished in a time of 21:21.0.
The men's cross country team will be led by senior
Michael Morgan (Silgo, Ireland) and graduate student
Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia). Morgan had an impressive junior cross country season as he placed 11th (25:40.97) at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship. Morgan went on to finish sixth (29:51.0) at NCAA Northeast Regionals and competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championship and finished in a time of 30:33.1.
Thygesen begins his fourth season with the Friars following a successful 2023-24 campaign. Thygesen placed 18th (25:53.54) at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship and went on to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regionals where he finished 29th (30:17.0).
