PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to Boston University, 3-0, in the 2024 season opener on Friday, Aug. 30 in Providence, R.I. The Terriers got on the board just over two minutes into the game and added two goals in the fourth quarter, including an empty-net goal with 2:43 remaining in regulation.
GAME FLOW:
• Boston University took a 1-0 lead just 2:07 into the game off a broken corner play. BU's Nicole Lauro took an initial shot that she didn't strike cleanly. The attempt was stopped by
Asia Porter in goal, but Tess Csejka collected the rebound and sent it over the goal line.
• BU held a 5-1 advantage in shots during the first quarter.
• The Friars outshot the Terriers 5-3 over the next two quarters, including a 4-1 edge in the second quarter.
• The Terriers made it a 2-0 game in the fourth quarter at the 52:44 mark. Katie Devine scored off a direct shot, assisted by Tegan Poerio and Maggie Driscoll.
• The Friars pulled Porters in favor of the extra attacker after Devine's goal.
• Providence generated two shot attempts and one penalty corner after making the adjustment, but were unable to convert a goal.
• The Terriers scored an empty-net goal in transition to close out the game, 3-0.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• The two teams finished the game tied 10-10 in shot attempts. BU held a 8-7 edge in shots on goal.
• The Friars posted a 9-4 edge in penalty corners in the game.
• Porter finished the game with five saves in 58:17 minutes of action.
• BU's Sophie Ortyl recorded a shutout victory with seven saves.
