The Friars will host the University of Rhode Island for their home opener on Thursday, Aug. 15 on Chapey Field at 6:30 p.m.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to open the 2024 season against the University of Rhode Island on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

FRIARS IN 2023… The Friars finished with a 10-5-5 overall record 4-1-5 in BIG EAST conference play. The Friars earned their second NCAA Tournament berth in three seasons, falling to Mississippi State in overtime of the First Round.
The Friars earned five All-BIG EAST selections in 2023. Recent graduate Meg Hughes was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Recent graduate Avery Sneed and sophomore Kayla Briggs were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Additionally, graduate Emma Bodmer and senior Gillian Kenney were named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. This set a record for the most players in program history to earn All-BIG EAST accolades for First, Second or Third Team Honors.
KAYLA BRIGGS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Ont.) received preseason recognition as a member of the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2024 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors Tuesday (Aug. 13). Briggs, who earned All-BIG East Second Team honors as a freshman in 2023, appeared in 12 games for the Friars. She finished fourth on the team in points with nine on two goals and five assists. Briggs was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice and earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll once during the regular season.
BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES POLL... Providence women's soccer was picked to finish fifth in the 2024 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll earning 66 points. Providence finished last season with a 4-1-5 record in conference play.
NEWCOMERS… Providence welcomes nine student-athletes to the program this season including two graduate transfers, two junior transfers and six freshmen. The graduate transfers include Kacey Lawerence (Monroe, Conn.) and Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.). The Junior transfers include Brooke Haarala (Framingham, Mass.) and Olivia Allen (Holland Landing, Ontario).
The incoming freshman class includes Kelly Stepnowski (Glastonbury, Conn.), Amaya Coffie (Warwick, R.I.), Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ontario), Caitlyn Gratton (Hamilton, Ontario), Lily Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.) and Kirstin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.).
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND... The Friars hold a 19-8-4 record against the Rams. In their last meeting, the Friars won 1-0 in Kingston, R.I. in 2023.
SCOUTING THE RAMS... In 2023, the University of Rhode Island finished 9-9-6 overall and 4-3-3 in the Atlantic 10 conference. The Rams return their top three scorers from last season. Cristina Sallent, who tallied seven points on three goals and one assist, Lauren MacDonald, who added five points on two goals and one assist, and Sam Hagerty, who tallied four points on two goals.
