Men’s And Women’s Indoor Track Set To Compete At The BIG EAST Championship

The BIG EAST Championship is scheduled for Feb. 23-24 in Chicago, Ill.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams will travel to Chicago, Ill. for the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. The two-day event will be held at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Indoor Track and Field Facility and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. Both days will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Headlining the Friar women will be Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) in the 3,000 meters. May set a personal record in the 3,000 meters of 8:54.16 at the Boston University Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 2. She set a program record in the mile (4:27.85) at the Boston University Terrier Classic and in the 800 meters (2:04.47) at the UMass Flagship Invitational.

Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) will compete in the mile. At the Boston University Terrier Classic on Jan. 27, Flockhart marked a personal record of 4:30.83 in the mile.

Also competing in the women's 3,000 meters will be Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Ireland), Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) and Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland), all of whom will run the 5,000 meters as well. Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) will run the 800 meters and Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) is set to compete in the distance medley relay.

For the men, Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) and Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) will be competing in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. Thygesen ran a 7:57.82 in the 3,000 meters on Feb. 10 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. Morgan set a personal record of 14:03.30 in the 5,000 meters at the Boston University Colyear–Danville Season Opener on Dec. 2.

DJ Principe (Johnston, R.I.) and Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) will also run the 3,000 meters. Coffey and Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) will compete in the 5,000 meters. Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand) will run the mile and Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.) is set to compete in the 400-meter event.
