PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 10/9 Providence College men's ice hockey team fell short Saturday (Nov. 16) at Schneider Arena, skating to a 5-1 loss to RV/No. 20 Massachusetts. Connor Kelley nabbed his first goal of the season in the loss as the Friars suffered their first defeat since opening night.

NOTES
- UMass opened the scoring 4:01 into the first period, as a Linden Alger shot beat Borgiel high stick-side to give the Minutemen a 1-0 advantage.
- The Minutemen extended their lead just over two and a half minutes later when Aydar Suniev rifled a snipe from the blue line to make it 2-0, connecting early on the extra attacker opportunity.
- The Friars broke onto the scoreboard midway through the opening frame, as John Mustard skated behind the UMass net before connecting with Connor Kelley up front on a one-timer, giving the defender his first of the year. Hudson Malinoski collected an assist on the face-off win to set up the goal.
- The Minutemen regained their two-goal advantage late in the second period as Lucas Olvestad took a shot from the blue line, ringing the puck off the post and in with 1:56 to play.
- UMass capitalized on the extended extra-attacker opportunity to open the third period, as Aydar Suniev buried a one-timer from the right circle at the 4:19 mark to put the Minutemen ahead 4-1.
- The Minutemen tacked on their fifth goal of the night midway through the third period as Dans Locmelis made space in the slot before firing past Borgiel, bringing about the final 5-1 score.
- The Friars outpaced the Minutemen 36-34 in shots in the loss. Fourteen Friars registered a shot on net, paced by a six-shot performance from Logan Sawyer and a five-shot outing for Chase Yoder.
- With the loss, Providence's unbeaten streak ends at nine games (7-0-2).
