- Both teams were held off the scoresheet through the opening frame, highlighted by a 13 save performance from Zachary Borgiel.
- Vermont's Colin Kessler opened the scoring 25 seconds into the second period, putting the Catamounts ahead 1-0.
- Providence's Will Elger replied just under two minutes later, connecting for his second goal as a Friar to tie it 1-1.
- The Friars took the lead at 3:51 in the middle frame, as Ryan O'Reilly finished on a Logan Will pass for his first goal with Providence.
- Vermont regained the lead with goals from Blake Steenerson and Massimo Lombardi to close out the second period up 3-2.
- The Catamounts extended their lead at 7:12 in the third period, with a Thomas Sinclair goal putting Vermont up 4-2.
- With just over seven minutes to play, the Friars got one back on a Graham Gamache tip-in off a Guillaume Richard shot to pull the game within a goal.
- The Friars knotted the game at 4-4 with 25.4 seconds to go in the third period, as Nick Poisson connected on a one-time feed from Andrew Centrella to capitalize on the extra attacker opportunity and send the game to overtime.
- Zachary Borgiel stood tall in net during the shootout period, denying Joel Maatta, Simon Jellus, and Colin Kessler en route to the 1-0 win. Offensively, Hudson Malinoski connected in the second round, beating Rancier low glove-side for the only score of the shootout.
- Providence extended its unbeaten streak against Vermont to 16 games (11-0-5) dating back to 2019.

Season Outlook
- The Friars enter the season picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing fourth in the league standings a year ago. The team returns its top-five scorers from 2023-24 – Nick Poisson (9-15-24), Tanner Adams (6-15-21), Chase Yoder (11-9-20), Hudson Malinoski (9-9-18) and Guillaume Richard (3-15-18). Yoder and Poisson were named captains, while Richard and Connor Kelley were named alternate captains.
- The incoming freshmen consist of four NHL draft picks, three that were selected in the 2024 NHL Draft held in Las Vegas back in June. Trevor Connelly became the fifth first-round pick of the program, joining Joe Hulbig (13th, 1992), Tom Fitzgerald (17th, 1986), Mark Jankowski (21st, 2012) and Jay O'Brien (19th, 2018) as he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights 19th overall. On day two of the draft, John Mustard was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (67th overall) and Logan Sawyer was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round (78th overall). Freshman Tomas Machu was a 2021 seventh round (221st overall) selection of the New York Islanders.
- Providence also welcomed five graduate transfers – Logan Will (F, Colorado College), Cam Gendron (F, New Hampshire), Carl Fish (D, Minnesota), Ryan O'Reilly (F, Arizona State) and Zachary Borgiel (G, Merrimack).

Scouting the Wildcats:
- New Hampshire (2-1-1, 0-0-1 HEA) enters their weekend home-and-home series with the Friars following a pair of road matchups at No. 10 Quinnipiac that saw the Wildcats fall 8-2 on Friday (Oct. 25) before topping the Bobcats 3-2 Saturday (Oct. 26).
- Through four games this season, forwards Ryan Conmy (2-2-4) and Nick Ring (2-1-3) pace the Wildcats in both goals with two apiece and total points. In total, ten different Wildcats have tallied a point this season.
- Robert Cronin (0-2-2), Conmy, and Colton Huard (0-2-2) lead New Hampshire in assists this season with a pair each. Nine different Wildcats have landed an assist this year.
- In net, the Wildcats have looked to junior Jared Whale, a transfer student who joins New Hampshire after two seasons with Alaska-Anchorage. In four starts this season, Whale has led the Wildcats to a 2-1-1 record alongside an 1.94 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.

Series History vs. New Hampshire (70-93-18, .436)
This weekend's matchup with New Hampshire marks the only meeting between the Wildcats and Friars this season. Since the 2021-22 season, Providence has earned a 5-2-2 record over the Wildcats and are currently riding a three game unbeaten streak, dating back to the Friars' 2-1 overtime win in the Hockey East Opening Round on March 8, 2023. In that span, the Friars are 4-1-0 at home and 1-1-2 when facing the Wildcats at the Whittemore Center in Durham.

Last weekend, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.

Leading the Pack:
Through five games this season, Tanner Adams (3-1-4) leads the team in goals, followed by Nick Poisson (2-3-5), Hudson Malinoski (2-3-5), and Will Elger (2-1-3) with two apiece. Poisson, Malinoski, and Austen May (0-3-3) pace the Friars in assists this season with three each.
