Marryn Gruhn scored the game-winner for the Friars at No. 20 Xavier.

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Providence College women's soccer team defeated No. 20 Xavier University, 2-1, on Sunday, October 20 on Corcoran Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. This marked the Friars' first win versus a nationally ranked opponent since Providence defeated No. 15 Georgetown in 2017. Providence improved to 6-8-1 overall and 3-4-0 in BIG EAST play. Xavier fell to 13-2-2 overall, and 6-1-1 in the BIG EAST.

GAME FLOW AND NOTES          

- Samantha Erbach scored for Xavier seven minutes into the first half to give the Musketeers the early lead. Her goal was assisted by Samantha Wiehe.  

- In the 54th minute, Xavier's Olivia Lawson was assessed a red card, forcing the Musketeers to finish the game one player down.

- Alanna Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) drew a foul inside the box to give the Friars a penalty shot. Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) beat the keeper right to tie the game for the Friars in the 70th minute. This marked McBride's first goal of the season.  

- Three minutes later, Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal for the Friars. Victoria Bunz (Middleton, Wis.) sent a ball into the box and Gruhn beat the Musketeers' goalkeeper to net her second goal of the season. Bunz was credited with her first assist of the season. 

- Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) saved an Xavier shot in the 86th minute to hold off a late charge.  

- Naiya McFarlane (Ajax, Canada) cleared a Xavier scoring chance with a minute left in the match to secure the win.  

- Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Thallman each recorded two saves in 45:00 of action.

- The Friars posted their first win on the road at Xavier since 2015.
