Last Time Out at North Dakota:

John Mustard appeared to give Providence an early lead after he beat Semptimphelter from just inside the blue line but a delayed whistle for offsides wiped the goal out.
- Cameron Berg gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at 8:34 after he tapped in a cross-crease pass from EJ Emery.
- Providence knotted the game at 12:44 of the opening period as
Braiden Clark chipped a loose puck in front of the net just under the crossbar for his first-career goal.
Ryan O'Reilly and
Andrew Centrella earned the assists.
- The Fighting Hawks struck for three in the second period to take a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.
- Dylan James' re-direct gave North Dakota the lead at 6:51 of the second period.
- Jayden Perron added a goal 2:34 later to make it 3-1.
- With
Hudson Malinoski in the box for holding, Sacha Boisvert extended the lead on the power-play at 18:30.
- The Friars got back within two at 7:32 of the third period as Malinoski fired a shot off a cross-ice feed from
Graham Gamache that beat Semptimphelter for his first goal of the season to cut the Fighting Hawks lead to 4-2.
Trevor Connelly recorded his first-career NCAA point on the play.
- North Dakota closed the game out with an empty-net goal from Dylan James with 53 seconds remaining.
- Philip Svedebäck stopped 26-of-30 shots he faced.
- Providence drops to 11-3 all-time in season-openers under

Season Outlook
- The Friars enter the season picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing fourth in the league standings a year ago. The team returns its top-five scorers from 2023-24 –
Nick Poisson (9-15-24),
Tanner Adams (6-15-21),
Chase Yoder (11-9-20),
Hudson Malinoski (9-9-18) and
Guillaume Richard (3-15-18). Yoder and Poisson were named captains, while Richard and
Connor Kelley were named alternate captains.
- The incoming freshmen consist of four NHL draft picks, three that were selected in the 2024 NHL Draft held in Las Vegas back in June.
Trevor Connelly became the fifth first-round pick of the program, joining Joe Hulbig (13th, 1992), Tom Fitzgerald (17th, 1986), Mark Jankowski (21st, 2012) and Jay O'Brien (19th, 2018) as he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights 19th overall. On day two of the draft,
John Mustard was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (67th overall) and
Logan Sawyer was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round (78th overall). Freshman
Tomas Machu was a 2021 seventh round (221st overall) selection of the New York Islanders.

Scouting the Sun Devils…
- After an opening night win at Air Force, the Sun Devils have gone 0-2-1 over the last three after a 4-1 loss and 3-3 tie against Michigan last weekend in Tempe, Arizona.
- On offense, Noah Beck and former Friar
Bennett Schimek are the top-two scorers in the NCAA this season over the first four games. Beck has posted one goal and seven assists for eight points while Schimek four goals and three assists for seven points to begin the season. As a team, Arizona State has averaged 3.75 goals per game.
- In net, the Sun Devils are led by Gibson Homer who has posted a 2.37 GAA and .920 save percentage in three starts. Former UMass and UMass Lowell netminder Luke Pavicich has a 3.83 GAA and .879 save percentage in one start.
- The Sun Devils lead the country in short-handed goals this season with three. Conversely, Arizona State is tied with Alaska for the second-most short-handed goals allowed with a pair this season.
Series History vs. Arizona State
-This weekend marks Arizona State's first visit to Schneider Arena and the fourth/fifth matchups all-time between the two schools.
- The teams met last season at Mullett Arena, where the Sun Devils earned a 4-3 overtime win before the Friars responded with a 2-1 win in the second game.
- The only other meeting came at the 2017 Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa., as the Friars scored a 6-0 victory in the opening game of the tournament.

Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach
Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. Leaman sits at 397 career victories as a Division I head coach. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.

Nick Poisson ranks seventh among all active NCAA players in career scoring with 93 points. He aims to become the 55th member of the program to reach the 100-point milestone.
