Craig Needham along with a 15-save shutout from Philip Svedebäck paced the No. 10/11 Providence College men's hockey team to a 3-0 win over Brown in the 37th Mayor's Cup on Saturday (Dec. 30) at Meehan Auditorium.
- The Bears and Friars skated through the opening 20 minutes scoreless with each team having one power-play opportunity.
- Providence held a 12-5 advantage in shots after one period of play.
- The Friars continued the pressure in the second period but couldn't find the back net after a 13-7 shot advantage in the middle frame.

Craig Needham appeared to score midway through the period but the net was knocked off the pegs before the puck crossed the goal line.
- Svedebäck stood tall late in the period as he denied Ryan Shostak's breakaway bid to keep the game scoreless.
- The Friars finally broke through at 8:22 of the third period as
Chase Yoder notched his sixth goal of the season to give Providence a 1-0 lead.

Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach
Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. Leaman sits at 389 career victories as a Division I head coach.

Friars vs. No. 1-ranked Teams Under Leaman
Providence faces off against top-ranked Boston College this weekend in just the fifth and sixth games against the consenus No. 1 team in the nation under
Nate Leaman. Providence swept then No. 1 Merrimack on Dec. 2-3, 2011 and fell 3-1 to No. 1 Union in the 2014 NCAA East Regional Final. The Friars last faced the top-ranked squad at the 2021 Ice Breaker Tournament, where they dropped a 5-2 decision to Minnesota State on Oct. 15, 2021.
