PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated New Hampshire, 5-3, on Friday, Sept. 8 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars have won three-straight matches and improve to 3-2 on the season overall. New Hampshire dropped to 3-2.
1ST QUARTER:
• Graduate student
Lisa McNamara got the Friars on the board 8:57 into the match during a penalty corner. Eleonore de Keyser registered the first point of her collegiate career with an assist on the play.
• Providence outshot UNH, 4-1, and held a 1-0 edge in penalty corners.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars took a 2-0 lead at the 22:48 mark as
Bo Martina recorded her first collegiate goal during a penalty corner. De Keyser was credited with her second assist of the game as she fed Martina at the left post.
• Both teams attempted two shots during the second quarter, while UNH held the advantage in penalty corners, 2-1.
• Providence took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence outscored the Wildcats 3-1 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 5-1.
• The first two goals by the Friars came during breakouts in transition.

Celia Preveza struck first at 33:09 as she redirected a pass from
Bella DelNegro.

Macie Pennisi scored her first collegiate goal just minutes later at 36:58. Martina earned the assist as she found Pennisi wide open on the right side of the circle for the goal.
• UNH cracked the scoring column at 41:44 to make it a 4-1 game as Kathelijne Knuttel knocked home a rebound off the goalkeeper's pads.
• Providence responded quickly, scoring its third goal of the quarter and fifth of the game, at 43:49 to regain a four-goal advantage on the scoreboard (5-1).
• DelNegro earned the goal as she deflected an initial shot taken by
Marley Mailloux. Mailloux earned an assist on the play.
• Providence outshot New Hampshire 6-3 in the frame, while the Wildcats held a 3-1 edge in corners.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Wildcats threatened late in the fourth quarter as Tasmin Cookman recorded back-to-back goals within a span of 1:19 on the clock.
• She scored her first at 55:41, unassisted, to cut the Wildcats' deficit to three (5-2).
• Cookman connected on her second goal during a penalty corner at 56:10. Her sister, Tamera Cookman, earned the assist.
• Providence held on for a 5-3 victory.

Asia Porter played all 60 minutes in the cage for Providence and made three saves.
• Jemma Woods played the opening 38:07 for UNH in the cage. She allowed four goals and recorded four saves. She was relieved by Mariana Birdthistle, who played the remaining 21:53, and allowed one goal and recorded one save.
• For the game, Providence outshot New Hampshire, 12-9, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.
• UNH recorded eight penalty corners in the game, compared to three corners for Providence.
• The Friars scored on two of their three offensive corner opportunities.
• Providence's five goals are the most since tallying a 5-2 win over Villanova on Sept. 16, 2022.
• The Friars are 3-0 this season at home on Lennon Family Field.
• DelNegro's three points in the game (1g / 1a) mark a career high.
• Martina and Pennisi each scored their first career goals. Martina joined DelNegro with three points (1g / 1a).
