Providence College Volleyball Wins Back-To-Back Matches Against North Dakota And Grambling State
Macy Taylor registered a double-double against North Dakota.
 
Abilene, Texas – The Providence College volleyball team won back-to-back matches to close out the Abilene Christian University Tournament on Saturday, September 2 in Abilene, Texas. The Friars defeated the University of North Dakota, 3-2, and claimed a 3-1 victory over Grambling State. 
 
MATCH 1 VS NORTH DAKOTA STATE:
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the first set, 25-22.
- The Friars got off to an early 5-2 lead to start the set and extended their lead to 11-8.  
- Providence maintained control and pushed out to a 16-13 advantage. 
- The Friars held the lead for the rest of the set to take a 25-22 win.
- Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) notched three kills and two blocks in the first set.
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars claimed set two, 25-20.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to start the set making and were tied, 5-5.
- The Friars went on a 7-2 run to make the score 12-7. 
- Providence controlled a steady lead through the middle of the set, giving them the 17-13 lead.
- Providence closed out the set, winning 25-20.
- Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) and Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) each had three kills in the second set. 
 
THIRD ROUND HIGHLIGHTS: The Hawks won set three, 25-21.
- Providence got off to a quick start taking an 8-1 lead.
- The Hawks went on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 11-11.
- The two teams went back-and-forth before the Hawks scored three unanswered points to take the 17-15 lead. 
- North Dakota held lead the remainder of the set and claimed a 25-21 victory.
 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Hawks won the fourth set, 28-26, to tie the match at 2-2.
- Providence got out to a 9-5 lead in the fourth set.
- The Hawks went on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 15-12.
- North Dakota went on an 8-2 run to tie the set, 20-20. 
- The Hawks closed out the match, winning 28-26.
- Rhoden had a team high four kills in the fourth set.
 
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won the fifth set to claim the match.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to start the match making it 5-4 in Providences favor. 
- The Friars went on a 10-3 run to close the set, winning 15-7.
- Taylor tallied three kills in the final set.
 
MATCH NOTES:
- Macy Taylor registered a double-double, with 15 kills and 14 digs.
- Savannah Ivie led the Friars in digs, with 23.
- Shaliyah Rhoden recorded 15 kills for the Friars offense.

MATCH 2 VS GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERISTY:
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars took set one, 25-18.
- The Friars got off to a quick 9-4 lead to start the first set.
- Providence went on a 10-2 run in the middle of the set to take a 20-10 lead.
- The Friars controlled the lead the rest of the set, winning 25-18.
- The Friars combined for four service aces in the first set. 
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Grambling State won set two, 25-20.
- Grambling State went on an 8-4 run to start the second set.
- Providence answered with a 7-1 run to take an 11-9 lead. 
- From this point, the Tigers scored 11 of the next 15 points to take a 20-15 lead.
- Grambling State closed out the set, winning 25-20.
- Rhoden led the Friars offense with four kills in the second set.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars win the third set, 25-20, to gain a 2-1 edge in the match.
- Providence came out quick taking an early 10-5 lead in the third set. 
- The Friars continued to hold a lead through the middle of the set making it 16-11 Providence. 
- The Friars held the lead, winning 25-20
- Grant recorded three kills in the set.
-The Friars recorded five service aces in the third set.
 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGTS: The Friars won the fourth set, 25-20, to claim the match (3-1).
- The Friars got off to a 6-3 lead in the fourth set.
- The Friars used a 7-1 run making it 13-4.
- The Tigers got closed within four points but the Friars held on to win the set, 25-20.
- Taylor registered four kills in the fourth set.
 
MATCH NOTES:
- Rhoden led the Friars' offense with 15 kills in the match.
- Alicja Pokrzywa registered a team-high 20 digs in the match.
- Taylor put up 8 kills and 11 digs for the Friars.

WHATS NEXT:           
The Friars will return home to host The 18th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on September 8-9. The tournament will consist of six matches over two days. The teams joining the Friars include Saint Peters, Central Connecticut and Bryant University. Providence will open the tournament against Saint Peters on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday Sept. 9 they face Central Connecticut at 1:30 p.m. and the Bryant University at 5:30 p.m.
