Volleyball Falls To Eastern Washington University, 3-1

The Friars return to action at the Abilene Christian University Tournament next weekend.

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Providence College volleyball team fell to Eastern Washington University in four sets (3-1) on Saturday, August 26 in Bakersfield, Calif. The Friars return to action next weekend at the Abilene Christian University Tournament. Kayla Grant was named to the Cal State Bakersfield All-Tournament Team. Through the three matches Grant led the Friars offense earning them 31 points on 25 kills. 
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Eagles took set one, 25-12.
- Eastern Washington University started off hot, earning a 7-2 lead to begin the first set.
- Eastern Washington extended its lead to 18-7.
- The Eagles closed out the set, 25-12. 
- Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) registered three kills for the Friars.
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Eastern Washington took the second set, 25-18, for a 2-0 edge in the match.
- Both teams went back-and-forth to start the second set and were tied, 8-8.
- The Eagles went on 6-2 run to take a 14-10 lead.
- The Friars fought back and tied the set, 15-15.
- Eastern Washington scored seven unanswered points to close out the set (25-18). 
- Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) tallied four kills in the second set.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won the third set, 25-23.
- The Friars started the third set strong, giving themselves an 11-7 lead.
- Providence extended its lead to 16-13. 
- Providence College controlled the lead and earned a 25-23 win.
- The Friars recorded three service aces in the third set.
- Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) led the offense with five kills in the third set. 
 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Eastern Washington won the fourth set, 25- 15, to take the match.
- The Eagles went on a 5-0 run to start the fourth set. 
-  Eastern Washington continued to hold a lead and jumped out to a 12-5 advantage.
-  The Eagles won the fourth set, 25-15.
 
MATCH NOTES:
- Taylor recorded nine kills and ten digs for the Friars.
-  Grant registered 11 kills for Providence.
- Three different Friars reached double digits digs.

WHATS NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will be on the road again next weekend for the Abilene Christian University Tournament in Abilene, Texas. The Friars will face off against Abilene Christian University on Friday, Sept. 1 at 4:00 p.m. (ET). Providence will play the University of North Dakota on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. (ET) and Grambling State University at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
