Bakersfield, Calif. - The Providence College volleyball team opened its 2023 season at the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament on Friday, Aug. 25 in Bakersfield Calif. The Friars lost to Cal State Bakersfield in three sets to finish the first day of action. Earlier in the day, Providence fell to Southern Utah in four sets (3-1).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Cal State Bakersfield earned a 25-22 victory in the first set.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to start the match and reached a 7-7 tie.
- Cal State Bakersfield used a 4-1 run to take the lead, 15-13.
- The Friars took the lead late in the set at 22-21.
- The Roadrunners scored the last four points of the set to take the 25-22 win.

Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) recorded four kills in the first set.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Roadrunners won the second set, 25-21
- Cal State Bakersfield started the first set with a 5-1 lead.
- The Friars went on a mid-set run to take the lead, 13-12.
- The Friars held onto the lead the for the majority of the second set until the Roadrunners tied it at 20-20.
- Cal State Bakersfield went on 9-2 run to close the second set, 25-21.

Savannah Ivie (Frisco, Texas) registered 7 digs through the first two sets.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Cal State Bakersfield claimed the match with a 25-10 win in the third set.
- The Roadrunners took an 8-4 lead to start the third set.
- Cal State extended its lead to 15-8.
- Bakersfield went on an 12-2 run to take the win.

Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) tallied three kills in the final set

- Taylor led the offense with 11 kills.
- Ivie led the Friars with 10 digs.
