PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams will host the Friar Invitational on Friday, April 14 at 5:00 p.m. at the
Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field in Providence, R.I.
On the women's side, the 800 meters will feature
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) along with University of New Hampshire's Elizabeth Martell, who has run a 2:04.34 in the event.
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) is the top seed in the mile and will be helped by the presence of
Kimberley May, who will be doubling back from the 800 meters.
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) looks to continue her impressive freshman year by competing in the 3,000 meters. Buckley will face stiff competition from teammate
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and Stonybrook's Grace Weigle.
Racing in the 5,000 meters is top entrant, ECAC indoor champion, Fiona McLoughlin from Stonybrook.
Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) and Olivia Joly of Syracuse will also contend for the title.
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) is making her seasonal debut in the 400-meter hurdles.
On the men's side,
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) is the top seed in the 800 meters across a very competitive field. Nicholas Young from Northeastern and high school junior Marcus Reilly will provide the main opposition.
In the mile, there are five sub four-minute milers competing. Competition will be led by IC4A indoor champion Robert Becker of Stonybrook and Nathan Henderson from Syracuse.
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) and alum
Angus White will look to break the four-minute barrier for the first time.
The 3,000 meters will feature one of the all-time great Rhode Island high school runners, DJ Principe (Johnston, R.I.). Principe is coming off a great performance in the 5,000 meters at Raleigh Relays where his time (13:38.52) puts him 13
th in the NCAA.
The 5,000 meters consists of a competitive field of the top runners from Providence, Stonybrook and Syracuse.
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) will lead the Friars. Penn Relays 10,000-meter champion Evan Brennan from Stonybrook, alongside Iona's Liam Dee, Syracuse's Kevin Robertson and
Liam Back will all battle for the victory.
