Women’s Cross Country To Run In NCAA Championship on Nov. 18

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's cross country team will run at the 2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. Based upon their performances at regionals, Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) qualified as individuals and will also represent the Friars in the National Championship. The women's race will begin at 10:20 a.m. ET followed by the men's race at 11:10 a.m. ET.
 
The Friar women will be returning to the NCAA Championship for the third consecutive year and 31st time in program history. At the 2022 championship, the Friars earned a 16th-place finish. The Friar women's team has won the NCAA title twice in program history, in 1995 and 2013. In 2004, former Friar Kim Smith won the NCAA Championship and became the only individual winner in the history of the women's program.
 
On Friday, Nov. 10, the Friar women finished third at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Bronx, N.Y. and earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Championships. Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) continued her strong junior year campaign by finishing second overall (19:37.3). Seniors Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) were the second and third runners across the line for Providence. Flockhart moved through the field to place 13th (20:09.5) overall and Mooney finished 27th (20:31.8). 
 
Rounding out the top-five were senior Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and freshman Reese Fahys (East Greenwich, R.I.) placing 45th (20:51.7) and 50th (20:53.9), respectively.
 
Sophomores Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) round out the seven runners who will be traveling for Providence. 

Of the seven Friar women traveling to the championship May, Flockhart, Tuck and O'Mahony traveled to the 2022 championships.
 
Morgan qualified with a sixth-place finish (29:51.2) and Laadjel qualified with a ninth-place finish (29:55) at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
