CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Providence College women's cross country team competed at the 2023 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. The squad finished 28
th with 618 points. The men's team was represented by two individual runners in
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland).
On the women's side, senior
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) was the Friars' top finisher in the 6K race, placing 63
rd in a time of 20:28.5. Junior
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) completed the race in 116
th place (20:47.0). Also scoring for the Friars were senior Lily Tuck (Sunderland, Canada), junior
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) and freshman
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland). Tuck placed 169
th (21:10.9), Mooney crossed the line in 185
th(21:21.0) and Laverty finished 221
st (21:47.8). Overall, there were 253 individual runners who competed in the championship. It marked the second-consecutive appearance for the women's team and 30th appearance overall at the NCAA Championship.
On the men's side, Morgan crossed the finish line in 99
th place with a time of 30:33.1. Laadjel completed the 10K course in 106
th in a time of 30:35.9. A total of 238 athletes competed in the men's race.
