PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Head Coach of Cross Country and Track
Tim Brock has announced the hiring of
Sam Otis as the program's Assistant Coach for Cross Country/Track & Field on July 1.
Otis spent the past year as an assistant coach for the women's and men's cross country and track & field programs at Syracuse University. At Syracuse, Otis contributed to a fourth-place finish for the men's team at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Additionally, the Syracuse men won the 2025 NCAA Northeast Cross Country Regional Championship. During the 2026 track season, Otis was part of a staff that helped produce 14 NCAA First Round qualifiers and three All-Americans.
Prior to his time at Syracuse, Otis assisted at his alma mater, University of Pittsburgh, helping the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs with all aspects of training, recruiting and administration. He was instrumental in the program's growth within the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Otis earned his Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 2024, where he competed for the Panthers' cross country and track teams for five years and captained the men's cross country team for three seasons.
A native of Manlius, N.Y., Otis placed in the top 30 at the Nike Cross Nationals while competing for Fayetteville-Manlius High School. Otis will begin his duties on July 27.
