PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Georgetown, 4-3, in BIG EAST Conference play on Friday, Oct. 20 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST Conference. Georgetown dropped to 1-14 (0-6 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The Hoyas opened the scoring 6:10 into the game as Sydney Yodh found the back of the cage during a penalty corner. Alejandro Perez was credited with the assist.
•
Ally DeCoste tied the game, 1-1, at the 11:59 mark as she sent home a backhanded effort for her first goal of the day.
•
Charlotte Lorden fed the ball into the circle from the right side and
Celia Preveza made a nice touch on it to find DeCoste for the goal.
• Providence outshot Georgetown 3-1 in the opening quarter, while the Hoyas compiled a 2-1 edge in penalty corners.
2ND QUARTER:
• The second quarter was scoreless and the game remained knotted at 1-1 heading into halftime.
• The Friars led in shots (4-0) and corners (3-0).
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence mounted a 4-1 lead in the game, scoring three goals in a span of six minutes.
• DeCoste scored her second of the day at 32:14 as she redirected another feed from Preveza.
• Just 48-seconds later (33:02), Preveza was credited with her fifth goal of the season as she tipped in a pass from Bella Carrozza at the left post.
• At the 37:25 mark, DeCoste scored her third goal of the game to complete the hat trick.
Bella DelNegro found DeCoste at the left post to earn the assist.
• Georgetown closed the third quarter with an unassisted effort at 41:22. She dribbled into the top of the circle and ripped a shot off the pads of
Asia Porter.
• Providence carried a 4-2 lead into the fourth quarter.
• The Friars held a 5-1 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in offensive corners.
4TH QUARTER:
• Georgetown scored the lone goal of the fourth quarter to close the gap to one (4-3).
• The goal came just 44 seconds into the action as Sophie Towne one-timed a feed by Tumpbour into the back of the cage.
• The Providence defense held firm despite incurring a five-minute yellow card with just under eight minutes to play.
NOTES:
• DeCoste finished the game with a career-high six points on three goals. She is the second player this season to record a hat trick, as Eleonore de Keyser recorded three goals vs. Queens on October 8.
• Preveza also had a career-high in points (four), finishing the game with one goal and two assists.
• DelNegro's assist on Providence's fourth goal of the day marked her team-best seventh of the season.
• For the game, Providence led in shots (13-3), shots on goal (7-3) and penalty corners (7-2).
• Providence improved to 8-3 at home on Lennon Family Field.

• The Friars will host Brown in their final regular-season home game on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
