PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Brown, 3-1, in a cross-city matchup at Lennon Family Field on Oct. 24. The Friars improved 10-6 overall, while the Bears dropped to 6-9 on the season.
1ST QUARTER:
• The two teams were scoreless in the first quarter, 0-0.
• Providence led in shots (4-0), shots on goal (3-0) and penalty corners (3-0).
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 23:00 mark as senior
Marley Mailloux registered the first goal of her career.
Florencia Talarico was credited with the assist as she fed Mailloux at the top of the circle. Mailloux touched the ball to the right into space and fired a shot into the back of the cage.

Lily Procaccianti made it a 2-0 game as she redirected a feed from
Ally DeCoste at 26:51. It marked Procaccianti's second goal of the season, and the first assist of the year for DeCoste.
• Brown outshot Providence 4-2 in the second quarter, but the Friars were able to convert on both of their attempts for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Asia Porter recorded three saves in the cage for Providence during the second frame. Two of her three saves came on back-to-back chances by the Bears with just over a minute to play.
3RD QUARTER:
• The two teams were scoreless in the third, as the Friars carried their two-goal advantage into the final 15 minutes of play (2-0).
• Brown outshot Providence 3-2, but the Friars held a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. PC led in offensive corners, 2-1.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Bears came out of the gates strong to earn a penalty just 17-seconds into the action, but were unable to take advantage of the set piece.
• Talarico and DeCoste combined for back-to-back shots in the 49
th minute of play, but Brown's goalkeeper Ella Edmonds saved both attempts.
• The Bears cracked the scoring column at 50:31 as Lexi Pelligrino found the back of the cage for her team-best seventh goal of the year.
• Providence responded two minutes later (52:36) as Procaccianti netted her second goal of the night. DeCoste was credited with the assist.
NOTES:
• The Friars have won seven-straight games against Brown and improve to 28-10-2 all-time against the Bears.
• With her two assists vs. Brown, DeCoste has scored at least two points in seven of the last nine games for Providence.
• Providence finished the game with the advantage in shots (11-9), shots on goal (10-6) and penalty corners (5-3).
• The Friars improved to 9-3 at home on Lennon Family Field this season.

• The Friars return to action this weekend with a pair of games at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa. First up, Providence concludes BIG EAST regular-season play with a match-up against Villanova on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 29, the Friars will face La Salle at 12:00 p.m.
