STORRS, CONN. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Connecticut, 3-1, on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in Storrs, Conn.
Shaliyah Rhoden paced the Friar effort with 13 kills.
RECORDS:
Providence – 8-13 (2-7 BIG EAST)
Connecticut – 7-14 (2-7 BIG EAST)
1ST SET: Providence won the first set, 25-22.
• The Huskies used a 4-0 scoring run to take a 6-3 lead early in the set.
• The Friars responded with three-straight points to tie the set (6-6), but UConn answered with a 6-0 run to claim a 12-6 advantage.
• The Friars battled back from a 12-6 deficit to tie the set, 15-15, forcing a UConn timeout.
• Providence came out of the break to take a 16-15 lead.
• The two teams traded points and the set was tied on five occasions down the stretch to make the score 20-20.
• Providence finished off the set with a 5-2 scoring advantage to win, 25-22.
2ND SET: Connecticut won the second set, 25-17.
• Providence got out to a 5-1 lead in the second set.
• UConn chipped away with a 10-4 scoring edge to take an 11-9 lead.
• It proved to be a lead that Huskies would not relinquish, as they went on to win the set, 25-17.
3RD SET: Connecticut won the third set, 25-22, to take a 2-1 edge in the match.
• UConn jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
• Providence inched within one (4-3), but the Huskies responded with a 5-0 run to take a 9-3 advantage on the scoreboard.
• Connecticut led by as many as seven (13-6), but the Friars fought back to make it a three-point game (15-12).
• The Friars fought off five set-point opportunities by the Huskies with a late 5-0 run, but the Huskies won the third set, 25-22.
4TH SET: Connecticut closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
• A 5-0 scoring run early in the fourth set provided UConn with an 8-2 lead.
• Trailing 12-6, the Friars went on a 6-0 run to tie the set, 12-12.
• A 5-0 run late in the set gave UConn a 19-14 lead.
• The Huskies held on for a 25-19 victory.

Kayla Grant each recorded eight kills for the Friars.

Miller McDonald registered 29 assists, seven digs and two blocks.
