PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will continue its six-game road stretch to open the 2022 season when they travel to New Hampshire (Sept. 2) and Dartmouth (Sept. 5) over Labor Day Weekend.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE:
• The Friars enter the weekend with an 0-2 record, having dropped their first two games to Boston University (2-1) and No. 14 Boston College (5-0).]
• Sophomore
Cami Crook scored the team's lone goal this season during Providence's season-opener against Boston University. It marked the first goal of her collegiate career with the Friars.
• Junior goalkeeper
Asia Porter has logged 118 minutes in the cage, thus far, and has posted a 0.731 save percentage. She recorded a season-high 16 saves vs. No. 14 Boston College.
• In 2022, Providence is slated to face seven opponents currently ranked in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll (Preseason): No. 14 Boston College (L, 5-0), No. 5 Iowa, No. 25 UMass, No. 15 Connecticut, No. 22 Maine, No. 19 Old Dominion and No. 6 Liberty.
• Providence finished the 2021 season with an 8-10 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the BIG EAST Conference (sixth).
• The Friars compiled an 8-3 mark at home on Lennon Family Field. Seven of the Friars' 18 games were decided by one goal. Additionally, six of Providence's 10 losses came at the hands of nationally-ranked teams.
• Providence will play its first six games on the road, including three matches vs. nationally-ranked opponents.
• The Friars' first home game is scheduled for September 16 vs. BIG EAST foe Villanova.
• This season, the Friars will feature a veteran squad as 14 of the 23 players on the roster are upperclassmen, including two graduate students, five seniors and seven juniors. The team returns a total of 20 players from last season's roster, including eight starters.
• Offensively, the Friars return 10 of their 13 players who scored at least one point last season, including four of their five double-digit point scorers. Current graduate student
Niamh Gowing paced the Friars in 2021 with 20 points on six goals and eight assists. Seniors
Sophia Pompeo (16 points),
Nora Goddard-Despot (13 points) and
Lisa McNamara (12 points) also return to the line-up in 2022. McNamara was selected to play in the 2022 Nexus Championship this summer, while Goddard-Despot has been an active member of the Team Canada's Junior National Team.
• Graduate student
Amanda Collins has been a staple for Providence College on defense and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team in 2021. She also is a key contributor for the Friars' offensive and defensive corner units. She finished sixth on the team in scoring last year with nine points on four goals and one assist.
• Porter, who played the majority of minutes in the cage last season (955) and posted a 0.759 save percentage and a 2.20 goals against average.
• The Friars and Wildcats last met on Sept. 10, 2021 in Providence, R.I. Providence claimed a 2-1 victory as Goddard-Despot and Collins each tallied goals. Porter recorded six saves, including five in the fourth quarter.
• Providence closed out the 2021 regular-season schedule against Dartmouth on Oct. 31 in Providence, R.I. The Friars posted a 6-1 victory over the Big Green and the victory featured five different goal scorers. Dartmouth took an early 1-0 lead just 5:52 into the match, but the Friars responded by scoring six unanswered to take the win.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE:
• The Wildcats were picked to finish fourth in this year's America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, behind Maine, UAlbany and Stanford.
• New Hampshire enters Friday's match against Providence with a 2-0 record, having earned victories over Quinnipiac (3-1) and Boston University (5-2).
• Despite being outshot in each of its first two matches this season, UNH is averaging 4.0 goals per game, while giving up an average of 1.5 goals per game to its opponents.
• Freshman Tasmin Cookman recorded four goals – two on penalty strokes – and an assist for a total of nine points in UNH's two games. She recorded a goal and an assist in her collegiate debut at Quinnipiac to become the first Wildcat rookie in more than a decade to record more than two points in a season opener. She recently earned America East Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors.
• In goal, Jemma Woods went 2-0 last week with a 1.50 GAA and 0.842 save percentage; she made 16 saves with three goals against in playing the full 120 minutes. For her performance she earned America East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
• Leah Glidden joins Cookman with multiple goals on the season (two) and ranks second in scoring with four points.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH:
• Dartmouth finished last season 4-13.
• Six of Dartmouth's losses were by two goals or fewer, including four one-goal defeats.
• Dartmouth is scheduled to officially open its 2022 season this weekend.
• The Big Green will face No. 22 Maine on Sept. 2 and Quinnipiac on Sept. 3 before hosting the Friars on Monday, Sept. 5.
• Dartmouth returns it top-two point scorers from a season ago in Holley Cromwell and Bronwyn Bird. Cromwell tallied 11 points on four goals and three assists, while Bird added nine points on four goals an one assist.
• Lila Browne also returns to the line-up after finishing third on the team in scoring, with seven points, on two goals and a team-best three assists.
• Hatley Post returns as the most experienced goalkeeper, after splitting duties in the cage last season with Isabella Santucci. Post played 15 games last season, with five appearances in the starting line-up, and she recorded a 0.705 save percentage and a 2.95 goals against average.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence will face a pair of nationally ranked opponents next weekend when it travels to No. 5 Iowa on Sept. 9 in Iowa City, followed by a neutral-site match against No. 25 UMass on Sept. 10. The Friars match against the Minutewomen also will be played in Iowa City.
